The Delta was a wealth of emotions on Friday afternoon as several new Canadian citizens were welcomed to our community.

Passport To Unity traveled back to its roots as a festival, where in their first year they hosted their first citizenship ceremony, swearing in 30 new Canadians.

The milestone was celebrated once more this year to a mix of teary eyes and happy faces.

The swearing in ceremony was officiated by Judge Karen McMillan, with speeches by Mayor Debbie Amaroso, David Orazietti, and Bryan Hayes.

Gathered together the prospective citizens took the oath, sung the national anthem, and celebrated together in their new achievements.

"This city, I hope you have seen, has a commitment to cultural diversity,” said Mayor Debbie Amaroso.

“As you are welcomed to the country, and as you are honoured by the province, I am especially proud that you chose Sault Ste. Marie to be your home.”
