Northerners wanted this election: NDP

NEWS RELEASE

ONTARIO NDP

*************************
Northern Ontario supports Andrea Horwath’s decision on Liberal budget: NDP

Timmins – Gilles Bisson, MPP for Timmins-James Bay, said a new poll shows a clear majority of people across Northern Ontario agree with the NDP Leader’s decision to pull support from the Liberals.

“People in Northern Ontario have lost confidence in the Liberals and their false promises,” Bisson said. “Kathleen Wynne with Dalton McGuinty failed to stop scandal and waste and broke her promises to fix the challenges facing northern families.”

“The Liberal budget is a mad dash to escape scandal by promising the anything and everything,” Bisson said. “Just last week, the Liberals were promising the moon and the stars with a $1 billion commitment to the Ring of Fire, but it turns out that Northern Ontario will have to wait because the Liberal government would rather have a fight with Ottawa than get this project under way.”

A large majority of Northerners also hold the Liberals responsible for an election in Ontario and believe their budget is bad for the economy.

“Far from stable hands, people in Northern Ontario know that under Kathleen Wynne’s failed leadership, a culture of scandal, waste and cover-up have continued at Queen’s Park,” Bisson said.

Below is the text of the new Forum poll questions and results.

‘NDP leader Andrea Horwath has announced she will not support the Liberal government’s budget, which means there will be an election on June 12. Do you approve or disapprove of this decision?’

  Northern Ontario Ontario
Approve 50 56
Disapprove 35 33

In Ontario:

‘Who do you hold responsible for the fact there will be an election in Ontario?’

PCs 10
Libs 47
NDP 26

The Forum poll also found most Ontarians think the Liberal’s budget would harm the economy.

“Overall more think budget bad for economy than think it good,” says the new Forum poll. “The plurality of voters think the recent Ontario budget will be bad for the economy (39%), compared to half this proportion who think it will be good (21%). One fifth either think it will have no economic effect (21%) or don't have an opinion (19%).”

I don't think any of us wants an election.
What we want is to have a group of men and women who are honest/credible and are willing to be held accountable to run the Province/country /Senate/ City hall in the best interest of ALL the PEOPLE.
Therefore we would not be wasting money on elections so often.
dvb 5/5/2014 11:18:22 AM Report

@ Gater... I couldn't agree more.
Sam C 5/5/2014 11:23:27 AM Report

Hmm. No one asked me about this. Frankly, an election might be a good thing IF people accept the results. Judging by the past few elections, however, that's not likely to happen.

The big problem is there really is no credible choice. Period. I'm not a Wynne/Liberal fan, but that's the lesser of three evils, so to speak.

To me it seems that Horwath never intended to read the budget, other than to extract a few "talking points" for her rather mechanical speech. She certainly has not demonstrated a willingness to cooperate with either the Liberals or the Conservatives.

Hudak makes noises that sound promising, but I suspect they are as vacuous as his smile.

So, when Wynne is re-elected, hopefully everyone -- political parties and voters -- can accept the results and move on.

For all the problems people cite, we're far, far better off than many in this world.

This election I will be voting NDP for sure I am getting tired of all the promises that are not being kept. Orazetti has to go!!! I aked for help requarding a medical issue, all I got was lip service. All he wants to do is raises Mother Allowence, he should be taking our Health Issues seriouly. This goes for Hayes too !!!!!
fatafr 5/5/2014 12:16:52 PM Report

Personally, I don't think most Ontario taxpayers wanted an election. Are many taxpayers upset with this liberal Wynne
government with their heir of entitlement; their idea that to simply say, "I'm sorry" when she apologizes for the 1.1 billion gas plant disaster and to see the downward slippery slope this province is heading ?
I think the answer is emphatically, YES !!!
Now, the question remains, will anything change after June 12 ?? I truly believe that most Ontario voters view this as a "who is the least worst of 3 evils type of election". I like what Orazietti has done as MPP of this riding. I believe most feel the same way. I think he will get back in, but we'll have to wait and see. But, as far as Ontario as a whole, I really don't know which political party would do the best job. If the liberals hadn't become so arrogant; so entitled that they could waste millions and think it was "OK". If these liberals just governed as they would if they were spending their own money; maybe there wouldn't be an election and, God knows, this province wouldn't be in the pitiful financial state that it now finds itself in.
For me, there is no excuse for the waste, the scandals, the idea that they made some mistakes and now, we simply have to move on to make things better so it never happens again. Wynne says" let's wipe the slate clean and start over". Seriously, Wynne, is it really that simple for you ???? I don't agree and I'm sure many don't either.
Good luck to all of us leading up to this June 12 provincial election.
B Boy 5/5/2014 12:17:49 PM Report

@Sam C - why should we just idly sit and accept the outcome? Or are you just politely asking people to put up or shut up?
Mr. Poster 5/5/2014 12:23:03 PM Report

Liberal minority government is the way I see it. If you check the latest polls the Cons are at 38 &...the Libs at 33 % and the NDP completely out of the running at a dismal 22 %. When voters realize the likelihood that either the Cons or Libs will form the next government...I think the Libs will win. Many do NOT like Hudak and what he will do to unions. heck...they do not even have a candidate in this city. Are they going to parachute in another sacrificial candidate like they did before?
suckerminnows 5/5/2014 12:25:23 PM Report

what a waste of money and time and the ontario people will pay again-Horwath -NO-Hudak- not a chance
learningaswego 5/5/2014 1:44:57 PM Report

Newsflash for Horwath and the Dippers....

yes Ontarians may want an election, but we DON'T WANT the NDP.
mpa 5/5/2014 1:51:30 PM Report

So can someone tell me what was wrong with the Budget?

There was money for:

healthcare
education
infastructure
pension

Mr. Poster 5/5/2014 2:01:45 PM Report

It was a sound budget...but... Andrea is still in shock that it was so good. she turned down a budget that contained many things the NDP wanted. Bye bye Andrea.
pogi 5/5/2014 2:10:51 PM Report

I don't want an election! Money can be put to better use! Definitely will NOT vote NDP as they are the ones that forced an election!
Lovethenorth 5/5/2014 2:19:02 PM Report

Northerners want an election????REALLY????

No way the NDP will win. And the PCs MIGHT win....And if they do, it's very unlikely that will be good news for the North. Govt svcs. in the north already cut to the bone!
B Boy 5/5/2014 2:31:17 PM Report

Wasn't the PC party the only one with portion of their platform which specifically addresses Northern Ontario?

I'm still undecided but it seems like the NDP only care about the north when they're grand standing and the Libs only care about the north when they need votes.
-shaggs- 5/5/2014 2:33:05 PM Report

Some of you people on here act as if S.S.M. is the only northern community. Some of you act as if you know what everyone else wants. Truth is you don't know what I want or what other communities want. Try posting something relevant to the conversation from your own perspective with out making it sound like you understand what everyone is thinking. It's time for an election in my opinion as far as I'm concerned there should have been one a long time ago.
KGK 5/5/2014 3:15:10 PM Report

We sure do -- an opportunity to dump the NDP
justsomeguy 5/5/2014 3:18:35 PM Report

-shaggs- The entitled Sault Ste. Marie attitude is really getting exhausting.
steelworker 5/5/2014 3:49:34 PM Report

After propping up the criminals for so long the NDP finally got some morals? Don't think so.
I'm In 5/5/2014 9:16:21 PM Report

learningaswego speak for yourself who you want to win the election and I'll do my talking at the polling station. For all of you who don't like NDP that's your choice but all of you should pay full coverage for your health care (look in your history books) cause sorry to say that was the party that brought you free health care while the Liberals and PC's eroded it year after year. I hope the Liberals or PC's get in cause I want to see you all pay full health care and higher auto insurance.
Moonwytch 5/6/2014 1:30:53 AM Report

their all crooks and liers if u ask me... sick of goverment.anyone that has researched the good marajuana does for so many illnesses, but instead of helping the people you should be, you put liqour in grocery stores to kill more people.they definately dont want to lose their perks from the pharmacutical companies
justsomeguy 5/6/2014 6:53:53 AM Report

With all the incredibly important issues why does it always end up at pot smoking?

Frio 5/6/2014 7:30:34 AM Report

@ I'm In, I don't know who is getting "free" health care besides you. I've paid thousands of dollars in income taxes, GST, PST, other hidden taxes of all kinds, taxes on taxes and also another $600.00 and more surcharge designated for health care on my income tax every year. Auto insurance has continued to increase in price, no matter what government claimed they where going to do something about the fees charged.
CBSA 5/6/2014 7:36:41 AM Report

KGK

Right on. Both Mantha and Bisson have to go!!!!!!
