It's a go! Provincial election called for June 12

Friday, May 02, 2014   by: Staff

Today, Premier Kathleen Wynne met with the Honourable David C. Onley, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario who accepted her recommendation that Parliament be dissolved for a general election.

The official documents will be presented to his Honour later this afternoon, at which time the House will be officially dissolved.

The writs for the general election will be signed on Wednesday, May 7.

Under the Elections Act, the election would ordinarily take place on Thursday, June 5.

However, the Chief Electoral Officer has identified June 5 as a day of religious significance, and has recommended Thursday, June 12 as the alternate election day.

The recommendation has been accepted and the election for Ontario's 41st Parliament will take place on Thursday, June 12.

Please don't just vote for the closest match to your ideology, please vote for who you think demonstrates the best leadership. Ideologies always clash but only leaders can work towards compromise.
Most of all, please vote.
agent_zoey 5/2/2014 3:22:01 PM Report

Vote to get rid of Orazetti, so we can save all of the 700 jobs at Foster drive. We need to get Modernization stopped before all of these people are out of jobs.
IgnorantNortherner 5/2/2014 3:50:37 PM Report

You guys aren't going to like hearing this but lean in real close as it's vitally important you realize this sooner rather than later so that we can all move forward and establish a government

There can be NO MORE "lesser of the evils" voting mentality as all that does is create exponentially more evil with every voting cycle. Real change becomes impossible and a slow decline inevitable.

It doesn't matter what TEAM you subscribe to because the corruption, coercion, theft and lies are so deep rooted in the culture of each of the current political "options" and their career politicians that there is ZERO chance of saving face. This should be obvious to all of you by now.

They are ALL just multiple heads of the same beast that must first be struck down IN ITS ENTIRETY before we can start anew and install people that will REALLY work for your best interests. Real short terms, no crazy financial incentive, anyone caught taking corporate handouts gets life in the slammer, etc.

I just think the least we can do for future generations and what we absolutely owe them is to hand off a functional government that will work for them, rather than the other way around.
MYPOINT 5/2/2014 3:55:35 PM Report

is as follows ...

IF HORWATH gets voted in = we are not exactly sure but we remember the RAE days of yesteryear.

IF HUDAK gets voted in = union bashing because he has already stated that he wants to rip up valid contracts that are in place right now.

IF WYNNE gets voted in = same ole , same ole as the Old Dalton gang.

It really does not matter who you vote for as long as you take the time to vote. Please keep in mind that if you do not vote, you really do not have any right to complain about the Government you end up with.

Of course, your views may differ :)
ranny 5/2/2014 4:02:49 PM Report

@MYPOINT thank you while I cut myself. You've shatter whatever confidence I had left in all party members. :P

It's hard to pick who you want because no matter what. There's never a honest politician or party. All about greed and money hand off.
MYPOINT 5/2/2014 4:11:20 PM Report

is as follows ...

@ranny ... my deepest apologies for making you feel as you do :) I will state for the record that I will NOT be voting for David O. due to his total lack of concern for this area ( I am sure the teachers will remember him for other reasons also ). I will also state for the record that I will NOT be voting for the PC candidate because I do not trust Hudak for even a microsecond. I will also state for the record that I ' might' vote for the NDP ( not guaranteed yet ) because I do believe the local candidate has a LOT of class and is definitely a better option than David O.
I just wish there was a recall method in place prior this election so we could fire any candidate that did not keep his or her word.

As usual, your views may differ :)
Just Curious 5/2/2014 4:18:37 PM Report

My Point, I survived the RAE Days and the liberals have done more damage than Bob Rae ever did.. As for Celia Ross, she may be the nicest lady in the world, but when the upper crust starts crusading for the working man I get nervous.. Been married four times and am not looking to get screwed again. Having said that, I will be voting for her only to get the party as a whole in power.. Tired of photo op Davy....
ThinkAgain 5/2/2014 4:47:02 PM Report

Yahoo, lets blow more money.

All three cant be trusted, so now what do you do?
I wish there was a new party created, so tired of this 3 ring circus.
Right of Centre 5/2/2014 5:14:52 PM Report

I refuse to believe all politicians are corrupt. I DO believe people in the same, or similar, positions for a long time often leads to corruption. Think wiped hard drives...that was not an elected official, unless you believe the word came from McGuinty, in which case he should be in jail. (I believe he should be in jail for crimes against this province, regardless.)

Saying you should vote leadership, ignoring policy, is ridiculous. There's no way in hell some tree-hugger, listening to Bob Barker about saving the bears, is going to vote PC because of the leader.

Vote for what you believe in. No one party will have a platform that every person of their political ilk can agree with 100%. In the old days, you agreed with the ideology, and worked to change the manner in which that ideology was implemented. Today there is little involvement, low voter turnout, and a large percentage of low information voters.

Do you really want the future of your province, or country, decided on the basis of someone's hair or suit? On their teeth, or marital status?

Whatever you do, don't be a low information voter, or non-voter.
dadal 5/2/2014 5:18:44 PM Report

I agree with Mypoint. Will not matter who gets in, none of these parties will do anything.

Conservs ALWAYS ignore the Sault because we vote either NDP or Lib. Even IF we were to elect a Conserv, we will get the shaft.

NDP turned down the budget THEY demanded and Unions wanted. They turned down pay increases for senior caregivers, etc. They claim they were listening to Ontarians BUT their own supporters said to accept the budget!

Libs will go right back to what they were doing...ignoring the Soo and the North.

So I'm sure the city will vote NDP as BUT they won't get in. We don't want Orazetti so why don't WE send a message to the local Libs to put someone ELSE up.
guestwho 5/2/2014 5:40:38 PM Report

we all knew that this was going to happen(like they would support another party!!!)and sad but true, they`re all asses. They need to create a three sided coin to flip, to see which childrens group gets in to BS till the next round
Eagles Fan. 5/2/2014 6:26:03 PM Report

Say what you want, but one doesn't have to dig too deep into the memory bank to remember how well Sault Ste. Marie did with having a member of the non leading party representing us!! What did Tony Martin get for us?? Like it or not, with David Orazetti being a member of the governing party, Sault Ste. Marie received a lot more than we ever did with Tony Martin!!

Now you can love Celia Ross all you want, but there is no way in hell that the NDP will win this election, so voting for her will do this city no good!! The Conservatives may pull off the win, but to my knowledge, they haven't announced a local candidate to represent them, so it's unknown how we'll we'll be represented there.

But one thing is certain, if Celia Ross gets in, this city is screwed!!!!
Mr. Poster 5/2/2014 6:27:41 PM Report

lets forget expensive elections. We could let each of the three major parties take a turn for 2 years each at running the province. The best after this is done rules for the next 4 years.
I'm In 5/2/2014 6:48:06 PM Report

You can't compare Andrea Howarth to Bob Rae after all his bondoogle happened 19 years ago he was a Liberal in Orange, and don't say you can't trust her she was never in power, she could have voted down the Liberal budgets the past three years but didn't to avoid elections, she got what Ontarians wanted from the Liberals by holding the balance of power. Don't vote the rich man's party unless your rich, vote the working man's party for fairness. I took a wage freeze the last 2 years to help reduce the Provincial deficit, guess what the deficit went up and what did you get.
I'm In 5/2/2014 6:50:33 PM Report

I meant Andrea Horwath.

S.Claus 5/2/2014 8:32:25 PM Report

The BEST indicator of FUTURE performance is PAST practice.

I remember in 2003, Dalton McGinty PROMISED, " I won't raise your taxes" then brought in the largest tax grab in history.

The first 10 years in power the liberals spent irresponsibly to almost double the Provincial Debt to 270 BILLION dollars.

Premier Wynne has had two consecutive huge budget deficits.

Next year the Ontario Government will spend 11 Billon Dollars in Interest alone on the debt.

Time for a change.
MYPOINT 5/3/2014 12:05:52 AM Report

is as follows ...

Firstly, thanks to everyone who liked my earlier post. Ok now that that was said, I have the following to input.

I firmly believe that it IS time for David O. to go away. Sure he might have brought things to our city BUT, at what expense? This Province only went about 100% deeper in debt while the Liberals were in power. And please do not even get me going on all of the scandals regarding wasting BILLIONS of OUR dollars on gas plants etc.

I have never met Ms Ross but I must say that I have heard ' nice ' things said about the woman. Would I vote for her? Maybe, I am not exactly sure as of this exact moment.

Now for the PC candidate, whomever that may be. Would I vote for them? NOT EVEN A SLIM CHANCE! My reason is simple. If the PC's were to get voted in, it would help HUDAK get in and there is no way in hell that anyone with a working brain in this Province would ever want a union busting twerp as our Premier. My spouse has gone 3 years without any kind of pay raise already and although her union tried it's best to get the nurses a lousy $1 raise over 3 years, it was impossible to do so because the damned Government froze her wages. Anyone in a union would NOT want a union - busting Premier who actually said publicly that he would rip up union contracts ( albeit in some sort of legal ( crooked ) way.

I still firmly believe that it is time to actually demand that some sort of 'recall' method be implemented in this Province ( and in the Country also ) so that we could recall and then fire any representative that did not keep his or her promises that were made during an election campaign - no excuses accepted!

Of course, your views may differ :)
Mr. Poster 5/3/2014 7:01:40 AM Report

MYPOINT..I guess you will have to vote for the GREEN party as that's all that is left. I see poor voter turnout as many will feel all parties are the same and that it is a waste of time to bother voting. I cannot vote for David O as he supported his bandit party...cannot vote for Hudak...he makes me shudder and locally the NDO chose to run a very weak inexperienced second time candidate who lost heavily in a previous election .WHAT TO DO ???
vlr 5/3/2014 10:31:55 PM Report

Hudak is the worst possible candidate for low and middle class Ontarians. He will strip contracts and many will lose jobs. He plans to cut all school support staff positions, such as Educational Assistants, those who help your children. And before anyone tries to say EA's are overpaid, they're not!! They make about $27000 a year.
ranny 5/5/2014 10:27:43 AM Report

@dadal All political party will ignore the Northern Ontario. It's basically the numbers game. They will never win an election or majority seats from Northern Ontario. They get their power and support from Greater Toronto Area because of their population and seats. They can chant all they want saying, "We're here for you" we will never get anything up here. All business and money will be shipped to GTA while everyone in Northern Ontario fights for the left over.
