@SamC - I'm increasingly wishing that Sootoday would discontinue the commenting function (not referring to your post, just the posts in general). However I don't believe they will because that feature probably attracts more local visitors to this site.

Maybe Sam could do a column on that subject. Pros and cons of online comment sections.
justsomeguy 4/24/2014 10:05:26 AM Report

I guess my point is that often the comments have little to no substance and are often either emotional reactions to the article subject matter or emotional responses to the comments. SamC included. This is not intended as an insult, just an observation.

How is it that unlawfully possessing a concealable restricted firearm as a criminal is a slap on the wrist while possession of a hunting rifle that the RCMP has declared prohibited because of its appearance owned by a person with no criminal history will get you 3 years in federal prison. can someone please enlighten me?
highway1 4/24/2014 10:49:02 AM Report

Nice gun for plinking is what I meant, I do NOT agree with theprotector.

CAMO, just because it's the law, does not make it right.
jonesur 4/24/2014 10:55:56 AM Report

As a tax-paying, law-abididing.citizen you should know better. Thus the 3 years, but the criminal is probably not responsible due to social injustices for which he has no control.
iamtc 4/24/2014 11:02:45 AM Report

Maybe he is trying to clean up the streets and needs protection from the crackheads.
joshua_r_b 4/24/2014 11:11:51 AM Report

Considering the public attendance of the arrest on hwy 17 north last night, I can't believe there hasn't been anything written about that. ESU, unmarked cars, traffic delays!!!

end the comments section? u would be ending some of these people's lives.

i won't mention any names, but i think you have a good idea, :p
Bad Dawg 4/24/2014 6:22:47 PM Report

a social injustice?? Is that new excuse for these wannabe gangsters?? He is a criminal and does not deserve any excuses on why he was in possession of a handgun. So what will his punishment be?? perhaps more probation?? lock him up for 3 years like they would you or I for unauthorized possession. But all of you fools who think these criminals are senselessly being ridiculed for crimes they are accused of committing should really be social workers and save them!! they man up to do the crime, but whimp out when they get the time.

Everyone is so quick to judge and only perceive negativity. I'm willing to bet dude just wanted to protect himself.
