Second boater found dead in the Blind River

Sunday, April 20, 2014   by: Staff

Update: Sunday, April 20, 4:45 p.m.

On Sunday April 20, 2014 at 9:45 a.m. members from the Ontario Provincial Police Underwater Search and Recovery Unit located the second missing male in the Blind River.

The male was removed from the water and pronounced deceased and an autopsy has been scheduled for April 21, 2013 in Toronto.

There is nothing suspicious in the circumstances surrounding the death and the names of the victims have not been released at this time pending consultation with next-of-kin.

Original release: Thursday, April 17. 9:50 p.m.
The East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police are currently investigating a report of two missing parties that was received earlier today.

The missing parties were last observed on a vessel on Blind River earlier this morning.

Coordinated search efforts are currently ongoing with the assistance of the OPP Aviation Section, Marine Units, and ground search teams.

As a result of the search efforts a male party was located deceased in the area.

The search efforts are continuing for a second unaccounted for individual.

The names of the parties have not yet been released pending further investigation and notification of next of kin.

The OPP would like to advise members of the public that all waterways may be hazardous to public safety due increased water levels, strong currents, and cold water temperatures.

How come the title says "One Accounted for, One Deceased"

Yet the article clearly states one of the party is unaccounted for.
foxylady069 4/18/2014 8:44:28 AM Report

Sorry I should have added an ellipsis (...) at the end of the word deceased in my title quotation. Just in case I get jumped on from the grammar police.
zartan 4/18/2014 9:00:54 AM Report

Foxylady, what kind of man are you?
Perhaps one of these semi things (;) after "one accounted for" would have been less confusing for you.
I will be calling the grammar police!
Gotmilk 4/18/2014 9:28:59 AM Report

Is that really what you two have to bitch about? A man has died here.
Show some respect.
lookaround 4/18/2014 9:33:46 AM Report

Why would anyone venture in a boat when the water is so frigid? When in water respect your abilities to cope of what may come. God bless these Individuals and their families.
foxylady069 4/18/2014 9:36:02 AM Report

Oh please don't do that...They have been known to be more vicious than my old college teachers some days.
I was simply referring to the title giving an incorrect and conflicting statement from the article.
A semi colon would not have worked, in my quotation, as it only shows the devising part between two separate but related thoughts. Therefore, the rest of the title would have to be shown and it would still be incorrect. An ellipsis replaces the "missing words" in a phrase or sentence hence why my quote should have shown them.
foxylady069 4/18/2014 9:41:33 AM Report

@ GotMilk. I have plenty of compassion for the families of these two people, and for the loss of life.

When I read the title I was saddened that one person has been found deceased, and happy that the other was found. But after reading the article I was mistaken, as the other was not found.

I was simply stating that the title and the article have conflicting information directed to the publisher of the article.
Sam C 4/18/2014 9:54:08 AM Report

Perhaps the headline should read "Unaccounted..." In any case, grammar should be the least of anyone's concerns.

Reall, isn't the important point that two persons were missing, one has been found deceased, and the other is still missing?
zartan 4/18/2014 10:03:42 AM Report

Foxy, I am humbled by your intellect, my apologies.
Gotmilk, criticism was directed at title structure, not story content. My, what a tall tall horse you have.
Auntiej 4/18/2014 10:34:05 AM Report

As a family member I ask that you show some compassion and stop the nonsense.
makemyday 4/18/2014 10:36:16 AM Report

Dear sootoday.

I strongly suggest that you put an end to these "comment" areas. It is appalling to read. It seems there are very few people that do comment that have any respect for themselves let alone others. Please just let news be news. This is not an entertainment site is it? SERIOUSLY!!!!
makemyday 4/18/2014 10:37:22 AM Report

My condolences to the family of the deceased.
Auntiej 4/18/2014 10:53:49 AM Report

Thank you for your compassion makemyday!

but if you shut the comments down what would the peanut gallery do all day then? condolences to family and friends.
foxylady069 4/18/2014 11:31:15 AM Report

I will end this nonsense right now, since MY confusion over the title vs the story's context seemed to have caused an uproar.
1. My condolences to the family or families are sincere, a loss of life anywhere is should never be taken lightly.
2. My initial comment was directed to the author or publisher of the story, since the information between the two are conflicting. Quickly realizing the error in that quotation, I figured I would save myself the humiliation and harassment that comes with a grammar error.
3.Comments were made that I responded to. With no ill intent or malice. If there are people who choose to direct their comments towards other commenters rather than the story itself then they are equally guilty of committing the very same offense the blame me to have with my initial comment.
4. AuntieJ, I offer sincere condolences to you and your family during your time of mourning and grief. I am utterly sorry if you took offence to my initial comment.

Very sad story & at Easter time. Condolences to AuntieJ & all family & friends of the lost. To those who have been rude...we don't know the age groups, so, don't expect "adult" common sense, it may be a couple of young kids. Regardless, a terrible loss of life has taken place. Prayers to all.
uncle gary 4/18/2014 1:37:14 PM Report

I apologize for my mistake on the headline and thank you for bringing my attention to it. The error has been corrected and we hope to bring you more on this story as soon as possible.

@ Carol
No apology needed. I am sorry that pointing it out caused so much grief and anger amoung other commenters. Is there a way for a reader to inform an author of an error on an article without using the comment section?

@Foxylady You can send us feedback or just email us at - anytime. It's much appreciated.

momabird 4/20/2014 7:57:02 PM Report

Prayers are with the families involved. My question is why autopsies done in Toronto?
The 2 women killed in the collapse of the mall in Elliot Lake were autopsied in Sudbury knowing there would be multiple lawsuits filed. The murder of a father by his son the autopsy done in SSM. Why then 2 drownings while setting nets in the Blind River, do the autopsies have to be done in Toronto?
Sam C 4/20/2014 9:10:29 PM Report

Condolences to the families and friends. A death is never easy to deal with, and even more difficult under such tragic circumstances.
asp 4/20/2014 11:17:59 PM Report

I think Sootoday should refraine from letting people add coments in a death situation article in a show od respect to the families of the individuas families.
My Prayers Go Out to the families of both men.
Pakadeva 4/21/2014 1:59:57 AM Report

The majority of us prefer to send prayers & condolences in situations like this, the few that are negative, it just tells you something about them, not the poster nor the families involved. God Bless everyone with peace of mind at this time.
swamp angel 4/21/2014 11:38:40 AM Report

My sincere condolences go out to the families and friends of the deceased today. May you all find peace in all the great memories that you hold so dear. ~HUGS~
