pro GM bailout
pro bank bailout
pro housing bubble
the income trust lie

To say that I'll miss him would be the understatement of the century.
SLV1931 4/10/2014 2:48:00 PM Report

corrupted murder. add it to the list of J.P Morgan banker "suicides"
IgnorantNortherner 4/10/2014 2:51:58 PM Report

SLV you seem to be one of the few awake commentors on here.

Did you catch the one suicided two months ago by nailgun? Suuuure...
BlackHelix 4/10/2014 3:08:39 PM Report

Gotta love the conspiracy nuts.

Has there ever been a banker that died and it WASN'T a conspiracy? Seriously..just name one.
IgnorantNortherner 4/10/2014 3:19:52 PM Report

I'm a 'conspiracy nut' for questioning that someone chose to end their life by repeatedly nail-gunning their own chest and head?

Better get back to that tv Helix so you don't miss what to think and can stay informed on today's top issues. Bieber's getting in trouble for partying too hard...quick, you'll miss it!
BlackHelix 4/10/2014 3:29:07 PM Report

So you're not going to answer the question then?
B Boy 4/10/2014 3:33:42 PM Report

A family just lost a sibling, a father, an uncle. People lost a friend.
I understand his political decisions may not have been popular but I would still hope that people would at least be respectful regarding a person's death.

toady 4/10/2014 3:48:50 PM Report

best minister the country has ever had. deficit under control and an economy others envy.
Bearington Bear 4/10/2014 3:49:53 PM Report

@B Boy....not too many people that comment on stories have much respect for other people. It's not happening to them so they don't care. nice to see someone has some sense.
Bill_the_Cat 4/10/2014 3:50:23 PM Report

IgnorantNortherner: your moniker is certainly well chosen.

Here Here!
IgnorantNortherner 4/10/2014 3:55:47 PM Report

Than to answer your question, yes, BlackHelix, the vast majority, well over 99% of banker deaths seem totally ordinary to me. People do die of natural causes, after all. I tend to hone in on the prominent ones that die under what I'd call suspicious circumstances like the fella from the link above.

We have federal debt over $600,000,000,000 and one of the highest levels of household debt in the world. Who's envious of that, exactly toady?

Brietsy 4/10/2014 3:58:37 PM Report

Everything I've heard says he was a decent guy. I did not agree with all his policies, but I'm certain that he always thought he was putting other people first; trying to make Canada work.

book-end 4/10/2014 4:00:03 PM Report

First off : My condolences to the Family ! But I have to wonder.... did he " shop until he dropped " ?
iamtc 4/10/2014 4:08:31 PM Report

Mr. Poster 4/10/2014 4:13:07 PM Report

YES...and the burger was quite good.
pony 4/10/2014 4:14:42 PM Report

...and the "Post of the Day" goes to....iamtc
SLV1931 4/10/2014 4:29:25 PM Report

@ IgnorantNortherner
I agree with everything you say. But dont worry about anything... the Fed will just fire up the printing press and print their way out of this depression that no one is talking about, clearly inflating the currency into hyperinflation and ultimate collapse... but how about Bieber?
soowat 4/10/2014 4:35:51 PM Report

No wonder SOOTODAY closes the comments section on most of the news items published
RonBes 4/10/2014 4:40:05 PM Report

Probably assassinated. You don't just walk away from a job like that, working for the global illuminati (Bilderburgs/Koch-types, etc). I wonder what damning information he took with him when he quit?
R0FL0L 4/10/2014 4:46:19 PM Report

My sincere condolences to the Family!

With regards to closing the inappropriate comments, it is just a bit over 2 hours-- censorship will not worry
sinikka 4/10/2014 4:47:52 PM Report

IgnorantNortherner our economy and banking system are the envy of the world. This is not rumour it is fact. While other economies crumbled , canada was able to sidestep the collapse. Were u sleeping for the last 4 years or do you just post garbage for the sake of being significant.
Jim Flaherty was a great man and will be sorely missed.
ThinkAgain 4/10/2014 5:03:19 PM Report

A lot of angry tax payers, to bad its not directed to the proper place.
IgnorantNortherner 4/10/2014 5:11:26 PM Report

look sinikka, if you're going to make an outrageous claim like that the least you could do is reference it, even if it's from a garbage msm source. I can say "there are colonies on Mars this is a fact not rumour" but that does not make it so. Your words remind me of that Goebbels quote "If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it"

You're probably a little biased yourself, being Canadian and I bet you'd be one of the many Canadians to answer "no" to the question "Did Canada have a bank bailout following the 2008 financial crisis?"

I actually think Flaherty was one of the least slimy politicians of the last decade for what it's worth.
TFinn 4/10/2014 5:42:36 PM Report

IgnorantNortherner 4/10/2014 5:11:26 PM

Wow ...Someone has passed here...he had family and people who cared for him. Not nice to speak ill of the departed.
SimsDrum 4/10/2014 5:45:40 PM Report

So to sum up ' ignorant'
You are going to miss him a lot then?
Gater 4/10/2014 5:52:05 PM Report

My sincere condolences to Mr. Flaherty's family and friends. Truly a dedicated Canadian.
SimsDrum 4/10/2014 5:57:04 PM Report

This particular site has some of the worst comments ever.
Not witty
Not funny
Not informed
Not clever
I think most of these people just get some sort of pathetic rush from seeing their comments actually published. Please people if all you can come up with is a blatant slam on a man you JUST died!,
Then please stop.
If you want some tips on how to comment creatively, humorously, with just a smidge of class
Check out gawker or the like.
CTgasman 4/10/2014 6:07:08 PM Report

It would be a challenge to find a greater example of mass stupidity than the comments section of an online news article

I am more convinced than ever that we are fast approaching the idiocracy...that epochal tipping point in our development, where stupid people set the agenda for humanity

RIP Jim Flaerty...a great financial officer.
MIG welder 4/10/2014 6:09:31 PM Report

The guy was a D-bag that stole from us all. Done deal...
IgnorantNortherner 4/10/2014 6:10:28 PM Report

TFinn the fact that he had friends and family that cared for him has nothing to do with it. I'm sure Hitler did too.
I gave him what I thought to be one of the best compliments you could bestow on a politician--one of the least slimy--and people are acting like I just killed a man!
Mr. Poster 4/10/2014 6:22:57 PM Report

This site needs a moderator or two with the authority to remove dumb and nasty postings.A man has died...a family is hurting...snide remarks play no part of what has happened. IMHO
TFinn 4/10/2014 6:35:11 PM Report

IgnorantNortherner 4/10/2014 6:10:28 PM

"the fact that he had friends and family that cared for him has nothing to do with it."

That's exactly the point ..the fact he had friends and family that cared for him.. has everything to do with it.
SimsDrum 4/10/2014 6:52:25 PM Report

Insane ?
I'm sad now!
Please stop opining Iggy.
IgnorantNortherner 4/10/2014 7:06:08 PM Report

Drum you're the dumb one if you can't see what tfinn is suggesting--that the actions of a man should not be criticized once he has passed because it would be offensive to friends and family.

It's almost like some of you guys support free speech--unless it offends you.
SimsDrum 4/10/2014 7:27:08 PM Report

I was commenting on your idiotic Hitler remark, nothing to do with Tfinn. Are you having a hard time following along?
Sammy1099 4/10/2014 7:52:00 PM Report

GoodWins law in action.

My condolensces to the family.
mirrorman 4/10/2014 9:04:04 PM Report

Man, I have never read so many posts by what appears to be such a bunch of unfeeling assholes. Have a little respect for the dead.
What are you all, little 8 year old fucking idiots?
RIP Mr. Flaherty.

BlackHelix 4/10/2014 9:28:10 PM Report

How is anything anyone has said thus far disrespectful?

So, the idea here is that when someone dies you can NEVER EVER say anything negative about them again? What's if it's true? What if it represents reality? It's not like these things weren't said when he was alive, but now it's somehow disrespectful?

Now who's acting like an 8 year old..
Thim 4/10/2014 9:38:06 PM Report

It's hard to believe the Sault is so full of morans.
BlackHelix 4/10/2014 9:45:08 PM Report

It's not so hard when you look through the archives...

The moran family immigrated here in 1903 and began working as potato farmers. They slowly worked their way up through the middle class rank and became one of Sault Ste. Marie's most prominent families.
mirrorman 4/10/2014 9:45:21 PM Report

Oh and in today's news some nobody with the moniker BlackHelix in Sault Ste. Marie died today.
And nobody cares.
There, feel better now?
BlackHelix 4/10/2014 9:49:22 PM Report

I can see you missed the point completely but Yes, I feel better

Fhearghuis 4/10/2014 10:05:24 PM Report

Blackhelix beat me to it. Morans! ha
Hinkle 4/11/2014 7:18:26 AM Report

I cannot believe some of the comments that are submitted totally disrespecting Jim Flaherty and his family at this time of sorrow.
Where is the compassion that we as humans are to show toward another human regardless of political choice or race. Jim was regarded by his political foes as one of the best financial leaders in the world who lead Canada through the recession.
The comments by the low life uneducated lay abouts slamming Mr. Flaherty is embarrassing to the intelligent common sense folks of Sault Ste. Marie.
mosquitos 4/11/2014 8:02:48 AM Report

For all you people that post hate, just look at Mulcair's teary response after Flaherty's passing, obviously there was a lot of mutual respect from across the aisle. Flaherty changed the tax code to allow people to care for loved ones with disabilities, that would say the most about his character, among all the harder decisions he had to make. RIP Jim, thank you for serving Canadians.
BlackHelix 4/11/2014 8:29:15 AM Report

Have you even read any of the previous comments? Which ones are "totally disrespectful" to him AND his family?

I mean, in you're educated and intelligent opinion.
TFinn 4/11/2014 9:25:37 AM Report

IgnorantNortherner 4/10/2014 7:06:08 PM

Just a question …previous to Jim Flaherty’s death ..have you ever once commented or complained on this site about Jim Flaherty? Or was it only now, after his demise you chose to make such rude and distasteful comments about the man. Just asking.??

My thoughts are only with his loved one’s at this time and the grief they obviously must endure. I only hope that your comments do not reach anyone close to them.
undecided 4/11/2014 11:57:03 AM Report

Jim Flaherty was a vey copentant financial minister and probably a very nice thoughtful man . But to say he was the best one ever is a stretch. As stated before our banking system (the envy of the world) was well in place before he took over.
TFinn 4/11/2014 12:17:32 PM Report

There are times and places for everything …this site is neither the place nor is it the time to make disparaging remarks about a person …or any person that has just recently passed away . We all have family and loved ones and I am shocked that there are people still saying hateful remarks on this site … how would any of you feel if some one said such things about one of your loved ones,at a time like this..?? Grow up and show some respect and class people.
Sera 4/12/2014 6:48:29 AM Report

Do not insult 8 year olds by comparing them to "those" so called people.
They (8 year olds) had nothing to do with this.
