About those loud noises this morning

Monday, April 07, 2014   by: Staff

Did you hear loud bangs coming from the steel plant around 8 a.m.?

Essar Steel Algoma reports the noises were the result of a small amount of iron coming into contact with water while entering the slag granulation facility.

There were no injuries and there was no impact on steel production, says the company.

I heard them. Loud and in succession. All the way up to the 4th Line!

For as often as it happens, you'd think it wouldn't make headlines.

The mini hydrogen gas explosion sheared about a dozen 7/8" bolts off the cover to a slag runner and sent it airbourne!

Meh... not newsworthy, its the nature of the industry.

Steel is a big business and there is a great deal that happens on a daily basis for such a company.

We should give Essar a bit of a break on operational issues. Not a free ride but we could stop jumping on them so much. We (myself included) have crapped on them for being untruthful and not paying bills...

But to crap on our neighbours the workers for small stuff is not needed. No one was hurt and they kept running. It is a big place and shit happens.
Maybe they can get back to profits? They must!
Without a profitable company on the river this town will dry up like a small mining town.

Remember how the government brought in the Lottery Corp to save the town back in the 1980s... Built the Casino....
Well that Lottery Corp may not be here for much longer... Nor the Casino. Both do not hire many people anymore. A few new hires each year will not support the area.
ASI or now Essar has been here since 1902...
Give them some space.. Just a bit.
Let them make steel..

Besides Bombay does not give a hoot about these articles anyhow.. Not my comments or yours.
We pay the MOL and MOE to police Essar and we can trust these people...right?
