For the second time this season, Soo Greyhounds goaltender Matt Murray has been named the Ontario Hockey League player of the week.
Murray earned the honour on Monday and on Tuesday the veteran netminder was named the Canadian Hockey League’s goaltender of the week.
Murray posted a 3-0-0 record with the Greyhounds that included a 2-0 overtime win in game five to wrap up the series.
The Pittsburgh Penguins prospect stopped 35 shots on Monday as the Greyhounds took a 2-1 series lead with a 5-3 win. Murray was back in goal for game four where he stopped 24 shots in a 2- shutout of the Attack.
Murray ended the series with a 30-save performance in a 6-1 series-clinching win in game five.
Murray becomes the second Greyhounds netminder to earn the CHL goaltender of the week honour after Brandon Halverson earned the honour for the week ending on Mar. 9
This week, Murray also was named as one of the five finalists for the OHL’s goaltender of the year award and the Greyhounds nominee for the Red Tilson Trophy which goes to the Ontario Hockey League’s Most Outstanding Player.
