POLICE SERVICES

**************************
At approximately 11:30 p.m. last night, city police officers were on routine patrol in the downtown area when they observed a vehicle in which a male who was wanted, was possibly riding in.

A vehicle stop was initiated and the male passenger identified himself with a name other than who the officers believed him to be.

Another officer attended to the area and positively identified the male as 21-year-old Gregory Charrette of Metzger Street.

Mr. Charrette was wanted on a Canada-wide parole warrant for breaching conditions of his release from a Federal Penitentiary.

Upon his arrest, the accused was found to be in possession of an illegal drug.

He was further charged with possession of a controlled substance and obstructing a police officer.

He will be appearing in bail court later this morning.

"A young Sault Ste. Marie man with no prior criminal record is headed to a federal penitentiary for having a a loaded, sawed-off shotgun.

Gregory Charrette, 20, was sentenced Thursday to the mandatory minimum three-year prison term for possessing a loaded, prohibited firearm.

He must have left a half-way house or something similar...maybe left a minimum security facility."

TFinn... difficult to draw a solid conclusion based on a single case. How many others who are released early stay clean?
Kevin5069 3/31/2014 1:21:22 PM Report

Read police beat on a regular basis and notice how most people who have serious charges begin with:

Charged with breach of <fill in blank> X <number of counts>

So it seems like the early release program just works well for criminals... and their tax payer funded lawyers...

Same goes for the Young Criminals act
