MCDOUGALL ENERGY

*****************************
For the third year in a row, McDougall Energy was named one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies.

This prestigious national award is sponsored by Deloitte, CIBC, National Post, Queen’s School of Business and MacKay CEO Forums.

The Sault-based company was a winner of Canada’s Best Managed Companies program in 2011 and requalified to maintain their status as a Best Managed Company in 2012 and 2013.

“Over the past 21 years, Canada's Best Managed Companies program has recognized the most innovative and Best Managed Companies in Canada. We are delighted to celebrate the accomplishments of McDougall Energy,” said John Hughes, National Leader of Canada’s Best Managed Companies and Managing Partner, Growth Enterprises, Deloitte.

The 69 year old energy company has been involved in 44 acquisitions since inception.

Now in its third generation of family ownership, McDougall Energy has grown to become one of the largest integrated distributors of Esso and Mobil products in Canada.

The business serves fuel and lubricant customers throughout Ontario and regions in British Columbia.

Darren McDougall, President of McDougall Energy was sentimental when asked about the award.

“To be named one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies three years in a row is a pretty special achievement for our company.  An award like this starts with great people and my family and I are thankful to everyone who played a part in our success; our loyal customers, dedicated employees and our critical partners.”

Established in 1993, the Canada’s Best Managed Companies is a national awards program, recognizing Canadian companies that have implemented world-class business practices and created value in innovative ways.

Applications are reviewed by an independent judging panel that evaluates how companies address various business challenges.

2013 winners of the Canada’s Best Managed Companies award, along with the Gold Standard winners, Requalified and Platinum Club members will be honoured at the annual Canada’s Best Managed Companies gala in Toronto on April 1, 2014.

About Canada’s Best Managed Companies

Canada's Best Managed Companies continues to be the mark of excellence for Canadian-owned and managed companies with revenues over $10 million.

Every year since the launch of the program in 1993, hundreds of entrepreneurial companies have competed for this designation in a rigorous and independent process that evaluates their management skills and practices.

The awards are granted on four levels:

  1. Best Managed winner (one of the new winners selected each year)
  2. Requalified member (repeat winners retain the Best Managed designation for two additional years, subject to annual operational and financial review);
  3. Gold Standard winner (After three consecutive years of maintaining their Best Managed status, these winners have demonstrated their commitment to the program and successfully reapplied for the designation. Companies may requalify for two additional years, subject to annual operational and financial review;
  4. Platinum Club member (winners that maintain Best Managed status for a minimum of six consecutive years).

Program sponsors are Deloitte, CIBC, National Post, Queen's School of Business and MacKay CEO Forums. For further information, visit www.bestmanagedcompanies.ca.

A well run company is one thing, but a monopoly is not a good thing for consumers, not at all.
Joe Kidd 3/25/2014 4:00:01 PM Report

I agree with beej, one distributor is not good. I tha ought the govt did not allow a monopoly for obvious reasons.
Sam C 3/25/2014 4:23:43 PM Report

Can someone explain how they are a monopoly, please?
CTgasman 3/25/2014 4:44:35 PM Report

I see no monopoly....?
jinch1 3/25/2014 6:23:40 PM Report

As far as I have heard MacDougall owns
all or most of the gas stations in town and that is why all the gas stations have the exact same price.

CTgasman 3/25/2014 6:58:43 PM Report

I own a gas station and I have no partnership or any part of my company is owned by McDougall

Beej
Care to elaborate on the monopoly comment..
No I didn't think so, much like so many of the comments on these stories there are absolutely no facts.
Swing and a miss.
Beej 3/25/2014 9:20:52 PM Report

Some of us work for a living and can't sit here commenting all day.
Who has a monopoly on bulk propane, that charges what they want?
When contacted about the gouging, the government says "it's free enterprise" and they can charge what they want.
No competition is a bad thing for consumers.
Lleoy 3/25/2014 9:31:22 PM Report

If you must know, you can buy this title. None of there workers like working there.
muf 3/25/2014 9:54:47 PM Report

When you correct someone's grammar, make sure you don't make mistakes of your own while doing it. It's "he is educated and you're not. Get your facts right. "
