What a terrible thing to have happened. deepest sympathies and condolences to all the family and friends of Mr. Hammond.
Stevie-E 3/18/2014 3:06:32 PM Report

What a horrible, horrible thing to happen. Killing your own father?? It makes me sick even thinking about it.

I don't know the circumstances, but I think this little sh*t deserves a long stint in federal prison. Enough with the rehabilitation process...the brain doesn't change to turn someone capable of killing into someone who is not capable!

This includes rapists, criminals who are violent, etc. Lock them up because these degenerates will crack and move up the ladder to something worse next time.

Some, not all of today's youth generation (under 25) have become desensitized to violence through glorified violence through video games, movies, youtube, etc and I think this may be a prime example.

Hope this wears away on you while you rot in prison, worthless punk.

"Enough with the rehabilitation process...the brain doesn't change to turn someone capable of killing into someone who is not capable!"

Got a source on that? You can't just say things and expect them to be taken as fact without backing it up.
scoobie doo 3/18/2014 3:29:38 PM Report

What a tragic situation... but I wouldn't be so quick to condemn the kid just yet without knowing the circumstances. For all we know he could have been defending himself or another family member. Child/family abuse does happen people...and not all teenagers are bad. I won't be so quick to judge until I know more.

Condolences to the family as they go through this.
Stevie-E 3/18/2014 3:32:17 PM Report

I really don't care if there is proof or not.

Show me the proof that people can be 100% rehabilitated? Just because people are fit to re-enter society according to a board, doesn't mean they won't kill again. Many enter a life of crime to a lesser degree and usually end up back in prison.

As for the person throwing up youtube links trying to discredit the obvious...again, I don't care.

These are my thoughts.
MikeQ 3/18/2014 3:34:33 PM Report

In an article like this, it is socially acceptable to feel sympathy and express it as such. It should not be used as a pulpit to scream your uninformed opinions and mindless rants. I, also do not know all of the details, but I respect my fellow humans enough to give them the ability to grieve without having to read the heartless ramblings of a heartless man.

Before posting something, one should always think of how it could affect someone involved... it is ethical and morally obligatory.
Stevie-E 3/18/2014 3:34:50 PM Report

I stated in my first comment that I don't know the circumstances...however, it takes real guts to kill a man that is almost 70. How did it even get to that??

I doubt it was in self defense!

Whatever happened to a healthy fear of your parents? Kids today need that and parents need to stop coddling their children growing up.

The truth shall come out.

Stevie.... you're not sounding very intelligent right now....
Asuna 3/18/2014 3:37:45 PM Report

You don't care because you're ignorant, and uneducated in your claims. If you can't back it up , don't make a claim.

"Hi my name is Stevie, I post boundless opinions without any evidence to backup my claims, my knee-jerk reactions are acceptable for the 1950's and will never move beyond that. Thank you for watching me publically make myself look like a mental midget."

That about sums up everything I read from Stevie.

You’re absolutely right, you know nothing. Keep your uninformed opinions to yourself.
If you have nothing good to offer but your own sickening judgments about people you don’t know, be nice and be quiet. I truly hope that something this tragic never happens to you, your family or to someone close to you. God forbid. I wonder if you would say to them what you are saying now. Sounds to me like you have not a compassionate molecule in you. Education may help you on many levels.
To everyone posting kind thoughts, it’s appreciated. To those who are oblivious to being sensitive towards other people, I truly believe there is a special kind of place for all of you.

Its true--we don't know the circumstances at all! I agree with the person that said "they have lost 2 members of their family."
Condolences to the 'whole' family.

My Condolences to the family..

Easy is to judge the mistakes of others.. Difficult is to recognize your own mistakes.

Here a question for anyone that want to judge did you see what happen? if not you have nothing to say about this case.Don't forget this kid has family and friends that might be reading this, have a heart.
gidgette 3/18/2014 5:26:04 PM Report

This is very sad. I feel for this family, as they have lost two loved ones. It's easy for people to sit behind a keyboard and write these thoughtless comments. If you were face to face this mother and wife would you be so inconsiderate to her face! There could be underlying issues that none of us even think of such as mental illness. And if this is the case this young man has to live with that the rest of his life. I pray this family can pull together and get through this.
Sam C 3/18/2014 5:59:18 PM Report

Stevie-E... you might have done better stopping after you said, "I don't know the circumstances."

Speculation does not help anyone.

I know the kid. An absolute disgrace to his family. He's always been a trouble maker. String him from the gallows.

sidekick101 3/18/2014 7:49:51 PM Report

MarcHandthefunkybunch. You are disgusting. You don't know "this kid" at all. But I have known him and his family - every single one of them - for all of their lives. He has never been a trouble maker. I'd like to know who you are. Because if you knew Ian and anyone in his family, you wouldn't be saying what you are lipping off about. You're a coward - we see who the trouble maker might be here. You make me sick - better to hide behind your computer, lord knows I can't say on here what I'd love to say to you.
You are despicable....
amshld 3/18/2014 9:00:16 PM Report

How about we look at the lack of resources in the Blind River area for Mental Health...My speculation is this family could have been probably trying to understand the mental health issues and none of their questions or needs were helped. Also, when people put labels on individuals who have mental health illness creates stigma and someone always get hurt...Stop with the name calling you going down to the same level..try to understand that mental health is so badly stigmatized that when we use words such as pyscho...bad ...ect. That is not helping the problem...and it is up to society to be educated before we slash other people.
Working Man 3/18/2014 10:36:33 PM Report

Sidekick,

I definitely agree that Steve has moronic comments. I normally would have replied to Steve-E's comment, but the last comment I read from him, on another topic, implied that he believes that seasonal workers shouldn't exist because they qualify for EI. And that ALL seasonal workers should be sole proprieter entreprenuers so they don't get EI. That comment was even stupider. I thereby have zero respect for this Steve person and suggest that nobody waste their time arguing with him..

However, education doesn't even solve stupidity. There are many well-educated people who don't have much values, and education doesn't solve ALL stupidity either.
MarcHandthefunkybunch 3/18/2014 10:56:46 PM Report

Ya sidekick, cause good, normal, rationale people kill their fathers. Great logic.
MarcHandthefunkybunch 3/18/2014 10:57:54 PM Report

And if you're so brave, tell us all who you are? You're hiding behind a keyboard worse then anyone. Punk
MarcHandthefunkybunch 3/18/2014 11:00:55 PM Report

Lastly, it seems so many of you seem to know the "real story" of what happened. Why not share it then? You won't, cause you don't know and you can't defend a first degree murderer!

Our whole way of debating is going down the toilet these days. We don't have to stand face and defend our statements anymore. We can just make Wild statements and throw around accusations and have no responsibility for what we say and who we harm.

KPNM 3/19/2014 2:20:07 PM Report

My condolences to the family in such a tough time. As for Stevie in her or his beliefs. First you should visits stats Canada (It's a website) and look at the stats for re-offenders particularly murders, it is very low to what your shouting about. Rehabilitation does work, there are facts to prove it, again that website stats Canada also has links to Corrections Services Canada that have done studies on rehabilitation. Now saying that, you are correct in one small thing, some people do re-offend. SOME. No system is ever perfect, no person is perfect. The rational (That means reasons, Stevie) for this young man committing such act, we won't know till trial. You may have some guess but you will not know for sure unless you attend the trial or read the case following it's publication after the trial is over. Now you obviously don't read, so before you shout any more ignorant and ridiculous comments, go watch the trail, listen, pay someone to come with you to help you understand it and then once you actually have something useful or contributive to say, come back and tell us what you have learned.
F-IS-H 3/19/2014 10:00:21 PM Report
