The return of Gordon Lightfoot. June 20, 2014

Friday, March 14, 2014   by: Donna Hopper

Canadian music legend Gordon Lightfoot last performed in the Sault Ste. Marie area in December of 2011.

We say 'legend' because throughout his 50-year career, Lightfoot has amassed an impressive store of accomplishments.

In the United States, his radio chart record shows five No. 1, five Top 10, and 13 Top 40 hits.

In Canada, Lightfoot's extensive body of work has garnered 16 No. 1, 18 Top 10, and 21 Top 40 hits.

The 17-time Juno Award winner is one of Bob Dylan's favourite songwriters and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2012.

Widely considered a national treasure, Lightfoot has been decorated with Canada's highest honours, including the Governor's General Award and the Companion to the Order of Canada honour of merit.

He's a member of Canada's Walk of Fame, The Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame, the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, and the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame, and in 2007 Canada Post issued the official Gordon Lightfoot postage stamp.

Lightfoot will return to our area to perform at Kewadin Casinos DreamMakers Theater on Friday, June 20, 2014.

Tickets for the Michigan Sault Gordon Lightfoot - 50 Years On The Carefree Highway tour stop go on sale at 9 a.m. on Friday, March 21.

Tickets are $42.50 and $32.50.

The USA tour also includes stops in Interlochen and East Lansing, Michigan.

Lightfoot is scheduled to tour Canada starting in October 2014 with shows in Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Ottawa and Toronto.
