Fox on the prowl (3 photos)

Thursday, March 13, 2014   by: Staff received the following fox photos from loyal reader Sylvia Sherwood who was out with her camera in the west end.

While out driving around on a beautiful sunny but cold day I came across a little red furry fox.

I watched him move around in the thick of the trees, and then to my surprise he pounced and I thought he caught a mouse or mole, but it was a bird.

He ate a little and then carried it away.

Watched him or her for about 30 minutes or more.

What a beautiful sight, nature at it's best.

I have seen foxes many times in the west end. Also have seen one hang around the casino. I have no problem with them .They are helping to lower populations of pigeons mice and other undesirable rodents. And also they could be lowering feral cats that are in the city. Now I do like cats but not the feral ones. The feral cats that are in the city can be dangerous and can harm kids.

Saw one at Albert and Tancred yesterday. They are adaptable but they also carry rabies so one should keep their distance when out with a pet..They are cute, tho. One used to come sit almost every day and watch me build my cottage out in Goulais. Didn't have a dog then or he might not have been so neighborly...:)

I live on Lake St., and we usually see quite a number of rats during the winter but not this year, Mr. Fox/linx or whatever is having good meal times and we thank them very much. They are welcome in my backyard anytime.

I see them downtown all the time! One walked past my basement window. I had a few run ins with them. They are so beautiful. I don't mind having them around at all.

We have a grey fox as well (or maybe it's a coyote) that crosses Second Line at night on Carmen's Way intersection, then heads down John Street. I've seen it a few times in same area.
