Possibly avoiding pot holes

more likely trying to squeeze that last second from the caution light.

Tablesaw... from what I've seen, middle-aged and younger people aren't all that brilliant at it, either. Bad driving isn't restricted to a particular age group.

Get rid of the cars and bring back the horses. They were smart enough not to run into each other.

Here is my rant for the day

Where is it posted that speed limits are suggestions, and you are just a plain idiot if you do not follow this "law". Every single day it seems like going 3-5 km OVER the speed limit means you should not be driving. Move over, park that car, why the heck are you even on the road. According to so many drivers out there 60 km means 75-80, 50 must mean 60km+.

Yellow lights, well excuse me for not speeding up to blast through that intersection, oh wait I forgot, you are just in a huge hurry to stop at the next red light.

Stop signs are mere suggestions, and you had better watch out, because those snowbanks do not permit you to see the other driver who is not stopping.

If you are sitting at a red light waiting to turn right and the advance green left turn arrow is on, sorry, don't waste you energy honking your horn rudely at me. I am not turning because I don't want a ticket. If you don't believe me read the MTO drivers handbook.

I would love to know what the big hurry is when an incredibly inpatient driver passes his poor neighbor on the LEFT (yes you read that properly) when he is turning left into his own driveway. How hard is it to slow down, you will only take a few extra seconds to get home.

People put your phones away while driving, stop texting while you sit at red lights, I think you will survive if you do not check your phone while you drive to work/home/the next store. I have lost count of how many pedestrians have nearly been hit, because of some driver who thinks that they can handle multitasking on their phone while being an alert driver.

Green eggs and ham you forgot to mention that the road markings and signs come from the Art Dept. at Public Works and Transportation because drivers in SSM don't follow/read them, try this in Toronto and you have more than an accident.
jojoe71 3/11/2014 5:39:16 PM Report

green eggs....I agree ...it's too simple...slow down...wait your turn..use your manners...but that's like telling someone not to smoke cause they're likely to die of lung cancer...no one listens. :(

I GUESS SOME A---OLES STILL DON'T KNOW HOW TO DRIVE. CAN'T IMMAGINE HOW THEY MADE IT THROUGH WINTER.

Strange that you people have nothing better to do then ridicule others... Young and old, no difference, you're just assholes !!! When it happens to you, you will be crying and whining.I'm sick of people who feed on other peoples mishaps. Better watch there maybe an elderly person that slips on the ice and breaks a hip....That would be the icing on the cake for you. Have a great night !!
H.E.T. 3/11/2014 8:28:40 PM Report

Sit at that light and see how many cars run the red light, every day. people need to learn those lights are only one shade of red. No wonder Canadas worst driver is coming to the soo.

Eldorado,

It takes an a$$#ole, to know one.
Working Man 3/11/2014 11:02:02 PM Report

I find that accidents in non-slippery conditions, such as this, is mostly drivers who make split second decisions to avoid potholes.

I witness drivers doing that ALL the time!! Just yesterday driving up church street/Pim street, some idiot driver in a red dodge van almost hit me to avoid the potholes in the right lane. No signals, nothing.

It costs 22 dollars to fix a leak in a tire! If you make a 10thousand dollar dent in a vehicle, it will make your insurance go up a lot more than that!
Bad Dawg 3/12/2014 12:14:49 AM Report

I'm the guy in the jeep telling people to get off their phones.... they hate it when I honk, look at me all insulted and say I'm not minding own business.

You run into my jeep I'll just pound out the dents and pocket your insurance money... as for your car it will probably be a write off and for your phone, you'll need a proctologist!!
Powerwise 3/12/2014 12:45:52 AM Report

Sorry folks, but I'm going to make a rather unpopular comment: I BLAME THE COPS!

See, if the cops actually took their vehicles off of the station lot (once in a blue moon!), perhaps people would think twice about stunt driving, running red lights, aggressive driving, etc.

What's the point of driving within remotely legal boundaries when you know almost ABSOLUTELY that no cop is EVER going to spend the time to actually bother ticketing you for speeding or dangerous manoeuvres?

Our cops can't be THAT busy; they should at least spend a few more hours per day enforcing traffic.

Is it so much to ask?

Tag33&1/3rd 3/12/2014 7:07:23 AM Report

You blame the cops? I blame the puc.
eldorado 3/12/2014 8:15:25 AM Report

Lleoy..... Did it take you long to come up with that intelligent response ??? The point I was trying to make was that there is too much negativity all around us, and why does everyone become like a vulture when someone has some misfortune. All it takes is a second to miscalculate distance or a light change. That person is not necessarily always a bad driver. I might of vented with a little too much gusto, and if I offended anyone, oh well. It is an open forum... I was pointing my comments to society as a whole, and I didn't get personal, so slow down !!!!
Dead End Kid 3/12/2014 9:33:43 AM Report

Eldorado, there should be no excuses or mistakes allowed when you are behind the wheel. It is no different than when you are operating a piece of heavy machinery in the workplace.
good4now 3/12/2014 10:06:44 AM Report

My thoughts:
Please don't blame the police.
They have to cover the city 24 X 7 and do NOT have unlimited manpower. Would you rather an officer monitor a stop sign or be on the lookout for dangerous driving or answering a call for a home invasion. They have to cover for holidays, sickness and of course the endless revolving door of court postponements.

It seems ridiculous that an officer, his car, his support equipment & people and the court system will all be tied up regarding a $10 shoplifting from Walmart. Their store security should ban and monitor shoppers and possibly use facial recognition software to identify repeat offenders.

Drivers generally do need to be more attentive and responsible. For instance the advance turn light at Gt Northern Rd and Second Line will click off if the lead car does not move IMMEDIATELY. Three cars at most will get through stranding a long line behind. Perhaps the Bd of Works could look at this and lengthen the click off time.
Ejo 3/12/2014 10:27:40 AM Report

THANK GOD EVERYONE IS OKAY!! Not a single one of you have mentioned that yet. Who cares about vehicles, pot holes, local police duties and every other ridiculous point that you've all been mentioning. Accidents happen, that's why they are called "accidents".
crashed13 3/12/2014 10:30:12 AM Report

That and the intersection of 2nd line and Great N. road are nuts.

Some times the left turning lane of 2nd line passes the Police station ,then you see a moron still tying a left out of the exist of Tim Horton's.

Possibly avoiding pot holes" Really? Are you even from this town? There are no pot holes there and even if there were, as a driver you are supposed to go slow when avoiding. Going slow will now cause damage like that.
It is like the second person said....trying to squeeze another second out of the caution light. Drivers are very bad for that in this town.
The bottom line is drivers in this town are horrible. And for some reason peopel reading about these drivers like to blame the city and cops and everyone BUT the bad drivers.
