Oopsy!
I plugged my electric car in around that time!
Sorry 'bout that! :)
ThinkAgain 3/10/2014 6:48:43 PM Report

Hmmmmm what could it be this time. They have already used excuses as a bird, a squirrel, freezing rain, strong winds, a tree, a tree branch, snow, falling leaves, vehicle hitting a pole.
I think its just old equipment myself.

Oh

Oh, wait for it

Melting snow
sootodayreader 3/10/2014 6:55:38 PM Report

The cause was from a person who opened a fire hydrant and the water reverse flowed into the power lines.

Make sense??
Sam C 3/10/2014 7:21:25 PM Report

Why does it have to be an "excuse"? I've seen animals contact power lines... there's not much left of the animal afterward, btw.

Whether its as squirrel or a bird, or a tree branch, these things do happen, and do cause power outages.

And yes, the equipment is old and can fail, too. How often do you upgrade the wiring and fixtures in your house?

Let me know if you find a community that has power 100% of the time.
palace 3/10/2014 7:26:24 PM Report

Thank you PUC...today I received a $700.00 bill from you for last month...great service...brown water...no power...KEEP IT UP!!!! I would buy a car from you!
soowat 3/10/2014 7:39:50 PM Report

Sam C Of course there is no community that does not have the occasional power failure.

However the administration and clerical staff in SSM have lousy customer service skills. On two occasions I have questioned the size of my bill and the attitude was pay it and shut up or we will simply disconnect you service. In fact,on one occasion those were pretty much the exact words of the employee to whom I spoke. No, Sam, I was not being rude and ignorant,I was simply questioning a huge increase in my year over year bill.
sootodayreader 3/10/2014 7:45:26 PM Report

Sam as usual your one sided.
Other communities don't have the repeated lying and story telling that have made people not trust there PUC as this city does.
The PUC needs to get rid of the upper management for covering up the brown water problem. These scum bags tried to blame the residence. They need to go.

palace 3/10/2014 7:58:09 PM Report

Great work...the power was on for 1/2 hour and went off again...hope that car has a warranty!

Sam C 3/10/2014 8:19:03 PM Report

soowat... I can't speak to the customer service, as I currently rent and do not deal directly with the PUC. On occasions previously when I have, I found them quite professional.

Still, whatever the customer service, that has little to do with the operation of the systems - water, sewage, electrical.

sootodayreader... just so you know, the only "side" I take is that of logic, and of rational explanation.

Prove to me there is "repeated lying and story telling" regarding power outages, and I might be able to accept your complaints.
statusquo 3/10/2014 8:29:38 PM Report

"the only "side" I take is that of logic, and of rational explanation."

Really?

Explain this then, with crumbling and old equipment why is it they had to spend 10 million plus dollars on a new administration building while there isn't a week that goes by that some section of town doesn't have some sort of power outage. What logic is behind that, Oh Reasonable One?
With the rates we are paying this sort of thing is unacceptable!!

I`d be really complaining! Hydro one is currently under investigation by the ombudsman. Just a bee to plant in your bonnet.
sootodayreader 3/10/2014 9:15:41 PM Report

Sam are you telling this forum you believe the PUC who at one point blamed the brown water on a citizen filling there swimming pool from a fire hydrant caused the brown water and many other excuses over the last year was telling the public the truth.

Sam I guess the PUC was telling the truth as you know it right.

Cover up, they must go.
sootodayreader 3/10/2014 9:18:37 PM Report

On my water bill I paid 3 times in service/sewer charges than I used.

Where is the money going
Gurpy 3/10/2014 9:19:47 PM Report

sootodayreader
Not for long! There`s a lawsuit in motion against the PUC. I know of someone who is involved. Their dirty little deeds will soon be floating to the surface for all to see!
Gurpy 3/10/2014 9:21:32 PM Report

sootodayreader
Place PUC on the Ombudsman`s radar! You can file a complaint on line.
sootodayreader 3/10/2014 9:23:55 PM Report

Good to know, thank you.
weezie06 3/10/2014 9:25:37 PM Report

@Gurpy I have complained I've asked to speak to someone higher I even called my council and I get the same run around. This city is the only place in northern ontario that doesn't have a bylaw for them to cut power in winter sudbury does and so does. Elliot lake even the bylaw officers told me that. I've asked for the last year of my bills and nothing yet. They under charged me water for 2 years and just figured it out last sept. It's been nothing but a joke with puc. I don't live in the east end so I don't have the brown water like most of you guys but I feel your pain cause my bill usually goes up 300 dollars every time there is a problem in the city.
ohsosonic 3/10/2014 9:35:58 PM Report

I`ve had problems also. I called puc and they came and checked my meter. My issues are a bit more serious as someone was stealing my puc!!! YEAH! I`m the type who knows exactly what I use and I monitor my usage on line. You are able to do the same. Log in to customer connect for puc. You will know exactly how many kwh`s you are using in a day and if something isn`t adding up, you can bring it to their attention. Look into it!
shju 3/10/2014 9:53:20 PM Report

How was someone stealing your power? Did they have an extension cord plugged in your house to their house? And to anyone that keeps saying they didnt need that building because we have power outages. Things break all the time. We have drastic temperature variations. Things break its a fact of life. They fix the problem and are up and running in minimal time. You lose a few hours a day without your computer, they lose millions of dollars in billable hours. I am more then sure they want that power back on as fast as possible. Do any of you work in the maintenance field? things break, old and new. I think there is too much tin foil helmets in this city.
Gurpy 3/10/2014 10:00:47 PM Report

Someone had access to outlets that were on my puc that my lovely landlord neglected to tell me about! The outlets are in my neighbours unit. Don`t worry! I`ve called a lawyer! Trust me!
ohsosonic 3/10/2014 10:10:30 PM Report

hey all. this is/could be fun.i will jump in to the responses when i get a little more comfortable.Take care all.
good4now 3/10/2014 10:51:23 PM Report

Watch Those Outlets !
Years ago, I rented in a large Apt Bldg in North Bay. The car plug ins were, of course, wired into each apts meter.
It was not uncommon to find someone plugged into my block heater box. I was subletting from an elderly lady. Bet she paid for a lot of power she didn't use. I was sure to blow the breaker whenever I went away for an extended time.
Lone24 3/10/2014 11:10:51 PM Report

I also heard Hydro One is going to be audited also. About time these crooks get what's coming to them.
Sam C 3/10/2014 11:37:31 PM Report

Sootodayreader... Their early explanations for the brown water were very plausible... and for all anyone knows may have indeed been true.

The problems with the Lorna well were not immediately evident - and coincided with the chlorine switchover.

Frankly, I wouldn't lay 100% of the blame on the PUC, either. There is an abundance of groundwater in that area, but there has been an explosion in construction in that same area... The same area that was once a very large wetland.

Unfortunately, people who develop these parcels of land are more concerned with what they can build ON the land, than what might happen if they disturb the land.
sootodayreader 3/10/2014 11:53:45 PM Report

Sam please, if the PUC didn't know it was the Lorna well then they don't know there system very well do they. If brown soupy water was in a well I
think it would be noticed visually immediately.
The PUC knew and decided to blame the citizens for there lack of maintenance because they wanted a new building instead of fixing current infrastructure.
I would like to see test results from these pump stations for the past few years.
The PUC lied many times so who's to say they are telling the truth now, maybe it's not the Lorna well, or is it. Either way the current management can't be trusted anymore. They must go.
I can tell you this past week my water although clear smells like earth.

All I am able to do until I sue the A** off him is to monitor my usage on line. He knows I know so, I do not for see any more immediate problems. He has now discovered that females are NOT all "dumb bunnies". I look forward to dragging him off to court and I do not care if I end up owing the lawyer for the rest of my days! This has nothing to do with money!

You will enjoy posting! It`s fun. If you should head over to the "blue room" it gets a little "nasty" at times. That`s okay! I can throw it right back at whoever throws it at me! LOl
