Wednesday, March 05, 2014   by: Brad Coccimiglio

A former first round pick of the Soo Greyhounds was among those deal on Wednesday, ahead of the National Hockey League trade deadline.

While big names like Ryan Callahan, Martin St. Louis and Thomas Vanek being dealt, the trade of former Greyhound James Livingston flew under the radar a bit.

Livingston was part of a trade that saw the Los Angeles Kings acquired the soon-to-be 24-year-old from the San Jose Sharks for a conditional seventh round draft pick in 2016.

Livingston had 15 points in 53 games with the Worcester Sharks, San Jose’s American League affiliate. He was originally draft by St; Louis in the third round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft and will report the the Kings AHL affiliate in Manchester.

The Manchester Monarchs feature a pair of former Greyhounds in defencemen Colin Miller and Andrew Campbell.

Campbell and Livingston were teammates for two seasons with the Greyhounds.

The NHL’s Minnesota Wild have signed a pair of OHL players.

This week, the team signed Kurtis Gabriel of the Owen Sound Attack and Guelph Storm forward Zack Mitchell.

Gabriel was the Wild’s third round pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. The fourth-year forward has posted career highs in assists and points this season. Gabriel had 30 assists and 42 points in 54 games with the Attack. His 12 goals are one off his career high of 13, set last season.

The Wild signed Mitchell as a free agent. The overage forward has played in 318 games in five seasons with the Storm. In 63 games this season, Mitchell has 30 goals and 79 points. His 79 points are a career high.

The Oshawa Generals are the first team to clinch a division title in the OHL this season.

Thanks to a shootout win over the Kingston Frontenacs on Sunday afternoon, the Generals clinched the East Division title. It marks the fourth division title in franchise history and first since 1991.
