Will this former Saultite go from 'Recipes to Riches'?Wednesday, March 05, 2014 by: Donna Hopper
A former Saultite now residing in Guelph, Ontario will make her network television debut this evening.
Marjan Mogharrabi, daughter of Roya and Dr. Mehran Mogharrabi, has a passion for cooking and was chosen to be one of three competitors for tonight's broadcast of Recipes to Riches.
The culinary reality show will air on CBC at 9 p.m.
The YMCA Youth Program supervisor said in a recent Recipes to Riches Q&A that it was her mother and grandmother that nourished her appetite for the culinary arts.
"My family is from Iran, and so cooking is a huge part of our life," Mogharrabi said. "Watching my grandma and my mom who were always in the kitchen made me develop a passion for it. I’ve been experimenting and cooking since I was a young kid."
Although she can't reveal what she prepared for tonight's competition, she explained that the recipe is a traditional Persian dish with a unique family twist, one that was her favourite growing up.

Tonight's Recipes to Riches broadcast is the second in a series that premiered on February 26, 2014 with Canadian celebrity host Carlo Rota.
Every week, three amateur chefs create and share their favourite recipes for a chance to become a finalist in the championship face-off.
Each week's finalist will enjoy a taste of celebrity chef stardom as their recipe becomes part of the President's Choice product catalogue at select Loblaw Companies Ltd. locations.
Weekly finalists also receive $25,000.
Five finalists will fight for a grand prize of $250,000 on April 2, 2014.
