Team Jacobs comes home tonight

Monday, February 24, 2014   by: Staff
Team Jacobs returns to Sault Ste. Marie tonight
Come to the airport to welcome home our Olympic gold medalists
Brad Jacobs and his Soo Curlers Association rink returns to Sault Ste. Marie at midnight tonight.
Residents are invited to the airport to welcome home our Olympic gold medalists, from Sochi, Russia.
There will be no cost to park at the airport – parking will be free courtesy of the Sault Ste. Marie Airport Development Corporation.
Wear red and white and bring signs and banners to show pride for our Olympic champions.
“I encourage Sault residents to come to the airport this evening to give Team Jacobs a warm welcome home after their sensational performance at the Sochi Winter Olympics,” says Acting Mayor Terry Sheehan.
The City in conjunction with Soo Curlers Association will host a formal community celebration to acknowledge the accomplishments of Team Jacobs and Sault Ste. Marie Paralympic athletes Mac and B.J. Marcoux, at a later date.

Just have to love the detailed reporting: WHAT TIME?

Just have to love the detailed reading and ignorance. READ THE FIRST LINE
port 2/24/2014 1:54:42 PM Report

Neither Porter nor Air Canada have flights arriving at midnight. Hence, why we need to know the time.

Here is the airline arrival schedule from the Sault Ste. Marie Airport Web Site.

Is it a charter flight?

Johnedater 2/24/2014 1:55:19 PM Report

Mayor Deb is away handling some family matters at this time...people READ before you criticise ...time is right there!!!sheesh
Frio 2/24/2014 1:58:49 PM Report

What time is "MIDNIGHT", obviously for some people that is too complicated to comprehend?
dingus 2/24/2014 2:04:59 PM Report

Air canada 7799 arives at 1229 tonight

So...not midnight then? Close but no cigar.

Stop deleting my comments, mods, please and thank you.

Lol'ing @ the time issue. (actually lol - not just saying lol) lol! :)
port 2/24/2014 2:21:04 PM Report

I think everyone is missing the point.

All I am questioning is: Is it too difficult to be detailed and state the complete information about the flight time and include the flight number so we can check to see if it is on time or even coming before driving 30 minutes to the airport?

Furthermore, why does the actual SSM Airport Website not show the flight number and time (as reported by another reader) in the arrivals section of their website?

The devil is in the details, or in this case, in the lack of details.
Tag33&1/3rd 2/24/2014 2:29:38 PM Report

Good point 'Port'
Long drive just to possibly have them pass you on roadway going towards town.
Congrats too them! I am working tonite or I possibly would have considered going! :) That would be exciting for them to see how much they are appreciated!
superior87 2/24/2014 2:33:53 PM Report

If you are concerned you could, I don't know, call the airport?
port 2/24/2014 2:39:14 PM Report

Have you tried calling the airport for flight information?

The last time I tried, a recorded message directed me to the airlines website or 800 number. Call either Porter or Air Canada for flight information and you need to know the flight time and flight number.

Going around in circles here.

If the proper details are reported in the first place...well I guess you know the answer to that one!

HowAbooutSomeLogic 2/24/2014 2:42:37 PM Report

superior, this is (supposed to be) a news know, stories, with reporting and details, etc.

Someone got paid to write the article but failed to include the only relevant information.

Par for the course, but we'll still point it out every time.
Tag33&1/3rd 2/24/2014 3:05:19 PM Report

They said midnite--they prob. arrive after that as to get everyone in place for runway. Could very well possibly be a private charter from Toronto.
port 2/24/2014 3:06:16 PM Report

In this case four parties failed to get the detail in:

1. City of Sault Ste. Marie (Press Release)
2. SSM Airport (They included free parking)
3. Sootoday (posted the news release)
4. And if you look at Local2, (part of Sootoday), they simply reposted the same press release.

I do not think it is unreasonable to expect detailed reporting of material information.
superior87 2/24/2014 3:08:19 PM Report

It's a press release. SooToday receives it and posts it verbatim. They can't only post what they receive. This is how press release's work.

Call the city then. Do anything but complain more, please, for everyone's sake.
learningaswego 2/24/2014 3:15:41 PM Report

Doesn't sound lie a good idea, IMHO.
Just a wild guess, but firstly, the team and their families are most likely very tired, and may just want to go straight home.
Secondly, how many people - even huge fans - really, will want to drive to the airport for midnight?
Thus, if or when only a handful of people show, how does that look - really?
pandabear_1003 2/24/2014 3:21:52 PM Report

here's the website for Air Canada to check flight info. If you are there by midnight you will be fine.

flight number 7799 - check it out closer to 10:30 pm it will tell you when they will be arriving.

No matter what time it is, I am sure there will be people there welcoming them home. Why complain about something so small, they made our city and country proud. They maybe happy to see some familiar and new faces, as they've been gone for a month.
bugalugs 2/24/2014 3:23:33 PM Report

If this is the type of negative people out there..don't go.....they don't want you...put a smile on your face, if you don't have anything nice to say...stay home!
OH IT'S ME AGAIN 2/24/2014 3:27:41 PM Report

I will never read this site again. All creditability of those who respond is totally lost with the idiotic responses posted ahead of this one. Some people need to get a life.
Milhouse van Houten 2/24/2014 3:59:24 PM Report

The flight Jacobs arrives on isn't listed on the Sault Airport website for Monday, February 24 because it doesn't arrive on Monday, February 24. It arrives early on Tuesday, February 25... 12:29 a.m. to be exact.

The City is requesting that people arrive at the Airport at midnight to be ready to greet the team. I fail to see how this is so confusing to people.
Tag33&1/3rd 2/24/2014 3:59:56 PM Report

I doubt the commenters making issues are even going to go. Really doubt it! I know if my family were in town and I wasn't working --I would definitely go!

Wear nametags with your Soo2day nicknames if you go! Lol
jade 2/24/2014 4:01:09 PM Report

Who cares
weather man 2/24/2014 4:33:27 PM Report

Would have been thoughtful if the city had some sort of FREE transportation, for the fans to get to the airport.
Sam C 2/24/2014 4:35:00 PM Report

learning... there were hundreds of people at the Curling Club to watch their games, late at night or first thing in the morning. I suspect there will be a good crowd at the airport.

As for the flight info... as superior87 states, the Media Release came from the City, and was posted verbatim. While there IS a scheduled Air Canada (official airline of Team Canada) flight arriving at 00:29, why not get to the airport -- if you're actually going -- just before midnight, just in case it's a charter flight?
Buzzola 2/24/2014 5:42:20 PM Report

Hey learningaswego, no one wants to see your miserable mug there anyways. You would only find something to complain about.Stay home and yell at some clouds.

Secondly... there are a lot of caring and well mannered comments on this site BUT... you know when it's best to read this site is when you've had a bad day and need to laugh til you pee yourself.

Hope everyone enjoys their evening !!

:) Congrats Curlers!
