"Road conditions have been worsening throughout the day and drivers are having difficulty adjusting their driving habits to the deteriorating conditions."

And with these conditions we see those e-bike riders out (Wellington by the Plaza - and with a passenger) on the roadway ensuring that they let us know that they have every right to use the roads. Too bad they don't use common sense. Same with the guy riding his bike on Lake Street dressed all in white and in the blowing snow as well. Come on people use some common sense.

LOL
scottstewy123 2/21/2014 6:11:44 PM Report

Gumby54 you are asking for a lot. Its like these same people that ride bicycles at night wearing black and having no lights on the bike.
Gumby54 2/21/2014 6:18:58 PM Report

@scottstewy123
Yes, but I have been told on this site before by those who obviously ride, "They have the right to be on the road way"
We must remember NCFS.
Challenger 2/21/2014 6:20:28 PM Report

How about the MTO WHITE snowplows. You can not see them when it is blowing snow on the highway.
Gumby54 2/21/2014 6:23:54 PM Report

They are slightly bigger than an e-bike, have Blue and Yellow Flashing lights on front and rear, will come out much better in a collision and if you come up on them and don't see them then you are obviously driving way too fast for the road conditions.
engineguy 2/21/2014 7:06:02 PM Report

Wow, and the police never arrested anyone for assault or breach of probation on anyone of these collisions? Really I hope no one was seriously injured.
saultbie25 2/21/2014 7:07:14 PM Report

People need to LEARN to drive to the conditions of the road. I was out today and was almost hit 3 times from idiots who shouldn't even have licences!
S.M.A.R.T. 2/21/2014 7:11:20 PM Report

MTO snowplows??? By golly, we have a time traveler! Have you not heard? Contracting out of highway maintenance. Sound familiar?

Oh yeah. And what possible relevance does any snowplow have when discussing ebikes and regular bikes on the roads during bad winter weather? If you can't keep your comments on topic, can't come up with a valid counter argument, are just trying to undermine peoples' legitimate concerns because you think everything has to be disputed no matter how dumb your comeback may be, then as Archie would say, "stifle it"!
Bad Dawg 2/21/2014 7:20:13 PM Report

to the bozo in the red ford..... If you only would of stayed behind my slow driving jeep but you sped past and 5 minutes later you somehow ended up sliding off the road. I didn't stop to help you because I can't fix stupid!!
twofast4u20 2/21/2014 7:36:52 PM Report

Well Gumby maybe it will take a patch of ice and a transport to instill common sense into some form of government, to remove e-bikes, mobility scooters and any other form of underpowered toys from the road.
Rockin 2/21/2014 8:05:02 PM Report

Apparently a guy in a Red Ford Pickup bled to death when he struck his nose on the steering wheel...

Not true, just poking humour to the slow moving jeep guy!

It is Canada after all and to say you've driven 25 years (assuming your 50 years old and half is winter driving) in white outs you should qualify to drive faster than some lesser qualified! Is that the Canadian way or what!
nanci 2/21/2014 8:22:49 PM Report

26 Accidents before 3:30 today. Main arteries were wet, granted huge pot holes. No white outs that I experienced. The first comment on this thread hit the nail on the head; SLOW DOWN. Stop for RED LIGHTs. Common sense and knowledge of the rules of the road. 26 Accidents before 3:30???
Sam C 2/21/2014 9:18:24 PM Report

I was driving along Wellington E this afternoon, and was passed by 3 vehicles between Pine and Pim... all three beat me to the red light by a good 10-15 seconds. I was going about 50-55, and they all flew past me.

I don't care if you're late for work, late picking your kid up, or you just want to get home and crack open a cold one. There's no reason to be going 70-80 km/h on city streets.

I wonder how many of these were caused by the Soo drivers who:
- never signal before turning
- insist on driving in the 1/4 lane when 2 lanes are down to 1 1/4
- only slow down at stop signs when making a turn
- creep out right in front of fast moving traffic
- turn in front of opposing traffic when light turns green
- drive in the middle of two lanes at 10 mph
- never clean the snow off the front hood
- etc. etc.
atoz 2/22/2014 1:57:20 AM Report

Speaking of bad drivers, why is it everytime i drive past searchmont turn off going to the soo some idiot has to pull out right in front of you doing 50-60 km , the highway is 90+ km. Not very bright...
