Winter storm, freezing rain warnings for Sault area (8 a.m. update)

Winter storm warning for Wawa - Pukaskwa Park - White River - Dubreuilville - Searchmont - Montreal River Harbour - Batchawana Bay - Agawa - Lake Superior Park

Snowfall amounts up to 30 cm and blowing snow today.

An intense winter storm over Lake Superior will continue to move north towards Eastern Hudson Bay today giving snow heavy at times today.

There will likely be a changeover to ice pellets and freezing rain in the Wawa - White River - Pukaskwa region early this morning.

Total snowfall amounts of 25 to 30 cm of snow are forecast, except in the Wawa - White River - Pukaskwa region, where near 15 cm of snow and some freezing rain are expected.

Dangerous winter driving conditions are expected.

Visibility may be reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow, and will also be significantly reduced due to blowing snow in strong and gusty northerly winds.

Snow squall watch for Wawa - Pukaskwa Park - White River - Dubreuilville - Searchmont - Montreal River Harbour - Batchawana Bay - Agawa - Lake Superior Park

Snow squalls may develop late this afternoon.

An intense winter storm over Lake Superior will continue to move north towards Eastern Hudson Bay today.

As the storm moves north brisk westerly winds will lead to the development of snow squalls late this afternoon into this evening.

Local snowfall amounts up to 15 cm are possible tonight with an additional 5 to 10 on Saturday.

Freezing rain warning for Timmins - Cochrane - Iroquois Falls - Greater Sudbury and vicinity - Elliot Lake - Ranger Lake - Chapleau - Missinaibi Lake

Freezing rain expected to change over to rain later this morning.

An intense winter storm over Lake Superior will continue to move north towards Eastern Hudson Bay today.

Freezing rain currently falling across the regions will change to rain or wet snow this morning and then back to flurries later this morning or this afternoon.

The freezing rain will spread further north towards Timmins this morning, lasting for a few hours before changing to rain later this morning.

Untreated surfaces may quickly become icy and slippery as the freezing rain moves in.

Wind warning for Manitoulin Island - Espanola - Killarney - Blind River - Thessalon

Very strong winds with 90 km/h gusts expected today.

Very strong southwesterly winds are expected to develop quite suddenly beginning later this morning in the wake of a sharp Arctic cold front that is blasting east across the region.

Wind gusts of 90 km/h are expected.

These winds are strong enough to cause some tree damage which may lead to some power outages.

Driving conditions will also be difficult especially for those travelling on highways subject to strong cross winds.

Winds will slowly ease a little tonight, although it will remain quite windy and gusty through the night into Saturday.

Travellers are urged to adjust or postpone their plans accordingly.

If travel is necessary, check highway conditions and possible highway closures before departing.

We live near the St. Joe Island turn-off and I gotta tell ya our house is literally shaking from the high wind gusts !!! It's 9:45 pm Thursday night and I hope it stops soon... Don't recall a wind warning like we're getting right now. Guess we just gotta batten down the hatches and hang on !!!

Isn't the storm predicted. Ya quite windy tho---storm blew threw quick. Not sure why the warning for next 3 days--just gotta look at radar.

2:16 am Haviland Bay, power out since midnight,
Winds horrendous. Glad internet works, got to look at the good side of things and be thankful for what we do have :-)

Power went out on Marlette drive about 11pm last night... still not back on .... normal thing ..crews working in area....trees on line again so I am told... about time they did some preventive pruning rather that wait till the power goes out... think there should be penelty on those "delivery charges" if they don't deliver!!!
