Low and Slow seen on Gore Street

Tuesday, February 18, 2014   by: SooToday.com Staff

There are new fresh eats in the Sault to tempt your tastebuds.

Low and Slow Smoked Fusion BBQ opened last Friday at 113 Gore Street.

SooToday.com spoke to owners Blake and Jen Richards, and Chad Stewart, who were excited to have renovations completed so they could open the doors to hungry guests last Friday.

They consider themselves big 'foodies' and have travelled down south in the U.S where they fell in love with the slow cooked  BBQ offerings to be found everywhere.

After scouting a few locations for the restaraunt they decided on the Gore Street spot because of the open concept kitchen, allowing interaction with the customers.

The specialty of course is smoked meat, brisket and pulled pork.

All the meat is smoked for approximately five hours and then continues cooking at low temperature  for another 10 hours.

They offer daily lunch specials like Shrimp Po-Boys, Jerk Chicken and Biscuits and Gravy to name just a few.

One of the more interesting menu items is Succotash and believe it or not, smoked cheesecake!

Yep they have smoked cheesecake too!

You can check out their full menu by clicking here.

I love that type of food, but I don't even want to park my car in that area.

I hope they have or will install some AC, the place is like a sauna bath in the summer.
Good luck with the new venture.

Sounds like heart attack stuff. I'll give it a whirl though. Hope they do well. Not many places have made it there since Sorrento's pizza. Don't be afraid to park in that area. Been doing It for years.

Hey guys, Awesome, all the best with the new venture, will be in soon and will want a tour. Good Luck
ROLAND_ROLLY 2/19/2014 9:06:28 AM Report

In all sincerety Good Luck, but given the history of the area it will be a tough go but with the Police presence in the area you can always depend on them to eat at your establishment.

Unfortunately, this area is doomed and most people won't take a chance on going to that area.
Christina216 2/19/2014 9:22:53 AM Report

OMG..you people make this area sound like the worst area in Toronto...
Ski-Dude 2/19/2014 9:24:50 AM Report

Was there not a restaurant in that area for many years? Good luck and all the best....we need your expansion into this area! Hope the city is giving you some breaks!
ssmikey75 2/19/2014 10:11:50 AM Report

Best of luck Blake,Jen and Chad. And as far as I have been told the city is giving grants to fix up houses and businesses to that area of the downtown so I've been told...
F-IS-H 2/19/2014 10:42:19 AM Report

Sounds good to me! Deffinitely gunna have to give it a try. Parkin in any area of this city is nothin to worry about. Keep valuables out of sight and you wont have a problem lol some people make it sound waaay worse than it is.
ShawnM 2/19/2014 9:24:37 PM Report

Do they offer takeout? Might be nice to try for our monthly office lunch at work.
How are the portions too, do you leave full?
Koolaid 2/20/2014 12:41:09 PM Report

iamtc is a jackass . It's not that bad downtown. soon there will be a police station on gore, so I think it will be safe. Also that area wasn't really that bad anyways. the only problem in that area, is crappy landlords not keeping their place up, and just renting to any to any bum
lizzardskills 2/21/2014 8:07:26 PM Report

I walk this area everyday with my purse on and I have yet to have a problem. A smile goes a long way!

Food is great, Service was so so. Some confusion over what table was what. Had a great waitress named April. She was trying to handle the entire place (and was doing a decent job). They are still working out the kinks and the place was packed. Food took a bit longer than it probably should but it wasn't horribly long and definitely worth the wait. The brisket, sausage (spicy), chicken and ribs were fantastic. Pulled pork was dry, but still tasted delicious. Coleslaw was Probably the only thing that sucked. Mostly because it was just plain.
lotsarecipes 2/25/2014 1:17:57 PM Report

I'm looking forward to trying the place out. From what I'm reading, it's getting some pretty rave reviews. Best of luck with the new venture.
