I don't want to sound rude but just because he was COP you have to print this? Every day good people pass and not a mention. Many of my brother and sisters in arms fall daily and not a mention by this site. seems you guys are bias on every issue

You don't want to sound rude however it's not about you and your feelings at this time ....it's in honor of a young gentleman that is gone way too soon.
Verbatim 2/17/2014 4:36:54 PM Report

Yes sad story indeed... Three lives lost in a week from our very shitty road system ... As long as the ppl south have good roads tho

And as a side note ... Sootoday can and has been somewhat bias in their reporting over the years

My God you guys!! He was a public servant! Protecting you and your families! It never ends you guys! You are giving this City such a bad name. What is wrong with you people? Have you all gone mad?
Soooo unappreciative some of you are!

RIP Mr. Dennie!

Come on horseguy show some class. Keep your negativity to yourself.

Horse's ---. Sad story.
Vmax-4 2/17/2014 7:03:41 PM Report

horseguy001, You refer to your brothers and sisters in arms, I assume that you are saying that you were/are in the armed forces. You should be embarrassed, and ashamed of yourself for your comments. The police pay the highest respect to fallen members of the armed forces, need I remind you of the highway of heroes.

My deepest condolences to the family, friends, and coworkers of Constable Dennie.
Bad Dawg 2/17/2014 8:15:00 PM Report

horse.... it was received by sootoday.... you should have sent notices of brother and sister that have fallen.... I'm sure they would have printed it.... and I thank-you for your service

As for the "cop" he was one... big deal... show some respect for someone who was taken too soon in a tragic accident.

Sorry for the families loss
Right Winger 2/18/2014 7:42:57 AM Report

horseguy's wording is all that is off.
Right Winger 2/18/2014 8:03:37 AM Report

What I am trying to say is that people die in many ways. Some of them make the front page of the news section on websites. What is the determining factor on whose obituary is important enough to place there vs a regular person who one has to search through the obituary to find? Does putting only a select few in the headlines not mean that others lives were less significant? Mr. Dennie's passing at such a young age is tragic, especially leaving a family behind. However I have seen other young father's in the obituaries, but not in the headlines.
justsomeguy 2/18/2014 8:36:13 AM Report

Sootoday publishes releases as they receive them.
I've seen them publish obituaries and releases from organizations such as the Rotary club when a member passes.

I truly hope that very few readers outside of Sault Ste. Marie read these responses. This city would come off as the most hateful, ignorant and unfriendly city around.

Way to keep it classy.
Right Winger 2/18/2014 8:49:05 AM Report

I am not being ignorant or hateful. I am curious. You have answered part of the question. But now who determines which releases from which organizations are deemed important enough to put on the obituariess
justsomeguy 2/18/2014 9:27:18 AM Report

@RW - I wasn't referring specifically to you. There are many, many responses & comments that exemplify hatred, intolerance, ignorance...

Maybe Sootoday moderators can clarify their criteria on how they choose to publish such releases.
Bob the builder 2/18/2014 9:42:28 AM Report

Sootoday, you have done nothing wrong. Please continue to give us the good news as well as the bad. This young man will be missed by a lot of people.
marc62 2/18/2014 10:14:20 AM Report

Our heart and prayers go out to a fallen officers family we have been where you are now, May the heavenly angels be with you and your family.
SandyM 2/18/2014 3:39:57 PM Report

Perhaps you are reading another Sootoday horseguy. Sootoday has honoured your local brothers and sisters in arms many times. They also honour those who had served many many years ago, if their service was mentioned in their obituary.

RWinger.. An interesting tidbit in the Obits? Slow news day? Press release sent out by the OPP? Why would it matter why and how they decide? It is their site, they can choose what they wish to post. Who says there has to be rules??

Carol Hughes rose in Parliament to pay tribute to Constable David Dennie. She felt his loss was important enough to mention.

All that makes sense to me is to send my condolences to his family.

Everything else really doesn't matter, does it?

Bad Dawg 2/18/2014 5:03:39 PM Report

Could be because he was a public servant/police officer. Just like a lot of people go to hospital too but Tony Martin made a headline....
