Not much byelection love for Liberals. Spring election ahead?

Friday, February 14, 2014   by: Rick McGee

Ontario’s scandal-ridden Liberal government failed to win seats in two byelections held February 13.

The NDP's Wayne Gates took the Niagara Falls riding.

The Progressive Conservative candidate ran a close second and the Liberals' flag-bearer was a distant third.

The seat had been held by Liberal Kim Craitor who resigned abruptly last September after a decade of service.

Meanwhile, the Progressive Conservatives maintained their seat in Thornhill (Toronto suburb).

Gila Martow follows Peter Shurman who resigned in December.

The Liberals ran second in Thornhill, while the NDP placed far back in third.

Despite the byelection results, the Liberals remain the governing party.

The PCs continue as the official opposition and the NDP remain the third party.

The latest setbacks for Premier Kathleen Wynne come after the Liberals lost three ridings - while keeping two - in byelections last summer.

There has been widespread speculation that the opposition parties could topple the minority government by refusing to support the Liberals' next budget, setting the stage for a spring general election.

Tough call... I would vote for Orazietti representing our community, but the Liberals in general need new blood. These scandals won't go away until the libs are punished for them at election time.

I had hopes for the Liberals via Justin Trudeau... I was even considering that I might have voted Liberal....

Then I get a wind of the Liberal agenda including gun control....

http://www.liberal.ca/151-guns-violence/

Ridiculous. They should concentrate on stiffer Courts and punishment for capital crimes, help for people with mental health issues so they don't commit violent acts, money for our roads and stiffer foreign trade policies that prevent a 10-1 trade ratio with China (not in our favour)!!!

They can try to pry the guns from my hands. In the mean time they can pound salt, I'm not going to vote for them.

Ontario needs to send David O and his buddies in Toronto to the land of nothingness,in an election. High costs to energy high cost of provincial taxes to gas. The policies of David O's crony buddies in Toronto are killing this province. Sault Ste Marie to get rid of the scandalous bunch in Toronto is to kick David O out to the curb. David O cares nothing for this province and this city. Ontario needs to totally cure the virus that is in Toronto. The cure for Ontario is to vote every LIBERAL out of there seat. Send a message to the Liberal Party. WE DO NOT WANT YOUR CARBON TAXING WAYS. Drop it Liberals. Ontario can not afford it.

You'll get your election in about a month, ScottStewy. Virtually no chance the NDP supports this budget.

WYNNE is actually the best "leader"...she is just caught in the wrong party. I like her...but not her parties behaviour.. For that she can thank DALTON.

I am not a big fan of the corrupt liberal party but I think david o. was good for the soo except for the green energy program which has seen our hydro go through the roof. But seeing the performance of the federal conservatives do you think they would be much better provincially.goverment wont be any better until each member can support what he or she belives can help there supporters and not what the party says they have to support.all the next elected party will do is blame the one before them

Other than Liberal Dave, who are the other local candidates? I don't believe we have one for the PC.
