Good-bye big blue eyesore!

Thursday, February 13, 2014   by: SooToday.com Staff

The big blue eyesore at the corner John and Cathcart Streets is finally coming down.

Crews were busy today reducing it to rubble and hauling it away.

The building was vacant when it suffered extensive smoke and fire damage in October, 2003 and, since that time, neighbourhood residents have tried unsuccessfully to have the building torn down.

Now, if we can get them on Gore st or maybe on Edinburg, St Andrews.... That crew could work for infinity in this area.

Thank you, it is about time. I wish it wouldn't have taken this long. Hopefully other buildings in this condition will be forced to do something quickly or face the same fate. This is not the only building in this area I have seen like this. I thought you couldn't get insurance money unless arrangements had been made to take care of the mess. That is what I was told when I lost a building. It was cleaned up as soon as it was dry enough for the bulldozers to get to it. Thanks again for cleaning that mess up.

@tag - that is a pretty nice sign. If the store is open, I'm shocked it's still there & not destroyed.

Better jump on that one!

On to the corner of Wellington Street East and Pim, that sh!th@le has been there long enough. its been home to rats and pigeons for a long time now they are the only occupants. How is this guy going to afford to pay the taxes seeing as its the same owner on Wellington where the older lady died and the city tore that one down too and added it to the guys tax bill.
Pakadeva 2/13/2014 7:12:53 PM Report

It was nice to see this building torn down this morning, crossing that road from John, across Cathcart will be much safer now that one can see better.
Thanks SSM for getting rid of it.
