Big or small, any charges look good on this dirt bag.
If there's a chance it will send him back to jail, great.

Outstanding Citizen? l think not.
Sam C 2/9/2014 9:52:46 AM Report

It is likely that they had information that there were more drugs on the premises, or perhaps that this guy was dealing. I don't see a full-out raid being conducted just for a bit of person-use pot.

I looked it up and yes, this is he same residence that todd petrie was found in. My condolences go out to the injured person's family. You are in my thoughts. Perhaps this will segue into finally allowing Todd petrie to rest knowing his killer has met justice. Perhaps this will somehow open up new doors into finding who killed Todd, and let his poor mother find inner peace. Its just so sad when something like this happens. Best wishes to both of the families involved.

What did it cost taxpayers this time? So far, I mean...won't count court or jail costs, which matter as well.

I hope you guys keep it up so everyone in the Soo will realize how out of touch with reality y'all are.

If drugs are seized and people are held responsible and charged, how in the heck is that wasted taxes? That's part of their jobs.
HowAbooutSomeLogic 2/9/2014 5:28:44 PM Report

I sense your ignorance, canadiens, so I will respond.

If I executed a search warrant on your home I would find drugs, too. Among them, caffeine, alcohol and probably more than a couple pharmaceuticals.

There is no evidence to suggest marijuana is any more dangerous than any of those and many scientific studies to suggest it has tremendous curative properties, unlike all of those.

The obvious difference is that it is illegal. The reasons for this are diverse but mainly due to the billions it would cost BigPharma if it were made legal.

This man was found with an amount of marijuana that is clearly for personal use. Who are you, or anyone else, to tell him what he can and cannot put in his body?

Now, you can trot out the 'they're just doing their job' meme but that has nothing to do with what is ethical. Nazi officers were 'just doing their job' when they made house to house searches rounding up Jews and sending them off the death camps.

HowAbooutSomeLogic 2/9/2014 6:04:59 PM Report

I probably should have mentioned what I was getting at in that last paragraph.

I expect the police, as I hope most do, not to be robots and follow words on paper or orders from up above but rather to use their best judgement at all times. IMO, they are to be model citizens that make the community a better place for all.

From personal experience, having a couple friends 'on the force', police use marijuana, too! They speed, roll stop signs, drive with lights out, etc, so why the hypocrisy?

The job of a police officer should be to investigate and reduce violent crime (KEEP THE PEACE) and when their goals are diverted towards revenue generating schemes and PR, as ours and many others have, I can't, in good conscience, support their motives. Nor can I support having my tax dollars go towards supporting their activities and since violent force would be used against me if I abstained from paying my taxes that are used for such things I must resort to protesting their questionable motives as they are presented.

How dare you compare the actions of taking a piece of sh#t off the street with your comment.

Nazi officers were 'just doing their job' when they made house to house searches rounding up Jews and sending them off the death camps.

This is a truly an offensive statement it is insulting to anyone who has served and anyone that lost their live or was fortunate to have survived that atrocity.
HowAbooutSomeLogic 2/10/2014 12:43:06 AM Report

KBO, try and take the emotion out of it, mmmmmkaaaay? Take a deep breath. Take three, actually.

I am not suggesting our police are the equivalent of nazi officers. Read, then read again.

I realize he/she would not advocate for the genocide of anyone BUT if you take canadiens logic ("they're just doing their job and following the orders passed down to them") to its extreme conclusion that is the horrific atrocity canadiens and others are supporting.

In a just society, whether or not you believe the accused to be a POS should have no bearing on his treatment under the law. You can't support our police and justice system and ALSO feel entitled to be the judge, jury and executioner whenever it suits you. I mean, you can...but it's totally irrational.
