Water main break on Penno Road

SAULT STE. MARIE, ON (7 February, 2014) - At approximately 3:30 a.m., a water main broke in the vicinity of Penno Road.

As a result 111 customers had their water services interrupted.

PUC emergency crews were dispatched early this morning and have started repairs.

During the repair process traffic flow will be restricted on Penno Road while crews work.

The streets affected by the service interruption are:

  • St. Patrick Street
  • Sunnydale Road
  • Penno Road
  • Holden Street
  • Sherwood Parkway
  • Silverdale Avenue
  • 1046 Peoples Road (apartment building)

Same main as a few years ago. Only a patch job then. Must have let go again. Thank god for porta-potties and bottled water. Haha. Can't wait to shower though.

Deterioration of pipes lack of knowledge and all the brown water is causing this matter not from frost it's from greed and cheap ways of doing the proper maintenance and repairs

I wonder if the huge snow banks are slowing the work they are doing ?

The PUC is doing repairs to this water main break. I was informed that water should be restored by mid to late afternoon.

Lived in the area for 20 years, that breaks at least once every winter and has for quite some time. Maybe time for a replacement?

I agree with Tagg! Thank you Public Works for clearing my west end street a few nights ago! Woke up the next morning and did the "happy dance". I could finally see the road in front of the house for the first time in MONTHS!!

I live on chambers, the banks have been done twice this winter,.

I'm surprised, with the state of a few of the roads in the city, that a few more water mains haven't broke. Look at the road heaving (sinking) on Macdonald Ave by Brien Ave. Not to mention the roller coaster on St Georges Ave between John St and North St. Risk of damaging your vehicle's shocks if you frequent those roads.
