Search for Canada's Worst Driver comes to the Sault

Thursday, February 06, 2014   by: Staff

Discovery’s hit series is marking its tenth anniversary with a dedicated stop in the Sault as part of its most in-depth candidate search ever!

TORONTO - This spring the Canada’s Worst Driver search team is cruising the streets of Canada, on the prowl for  the nation’s most dysfunctional drivers.

To commemorate the decade long series, producers will be visiting more cities and meeting with even more bad drivers than ever before.

One key stop is Sault Ste Marie, where producers are hoping to narrow in on the motorists causing the most mayhem and madness on local city streets.

But just how will the Canada’s Worst Driver team track down those in need of driver’s rehab?

With the help of Sault Ste Marie residents of course!

Sault Ste Marie Nominations are now being accepted for the 10th season of the series and can be made online by visiting

Those selected will be given one of eight coveted spots at the Canada’s Worst Driver rehabilitation centre featuring the most unique and effective training facilities in the country.

“To honour a decade of producing Canada’s Worst Driver, we’re launching our largest call for nominations yet, searching for the next round of terrible motorists,” said Guy O’Sullivan, President of Proper Television and Executive Producer of Canada’s Worst Driver.

“To find the worst of the worst, we’re enlisting the help of local residents to nominate the shoddiest drivers they know. Whether it’s a spouse, child, parent, friend, or co-worker, Canada’s Worst Driver wants to hear from you.”

Now in its 10th season, Canada’s Worst Driver aims to rehabilitate the country’s worst drivers by immersing them in a series of driving challenges while offering daily hands-on instruction.

In each episode, the most improved driver graduates and returns to public roads as a safer and more skilled driver.

The last man or woman standing is tagged with the dubious title of ‘Canada’s Worst Driver’.

Like shooting fish in a barrel, in this city!!
canadiens_8 2/7/2014 12:35:34 AM Report

It wouldn't be a movie here....more like a mini-series. LOTS of horrible drivers here.
RonBes 2/7/2014 12:55:31 AM Report

We've got some bad ones, but Sudbury is so much worse.

That said, I can think of a few potential nominees. ;)
Pakadeva 2/7/2014 2:21:13 AM Report

LOL @canadiens_8!
I agree, they're coming to the right city! Mini series on the Soo, gotta love that haha
candoo 2/7/2014 4:55:42 AM Report

Should be easy pickings. With so many people driving around this city who clear a post card sized area of snow off their windshields for visibility purposes, I'm curious as to when car manufacturers will offer periscopes as an option on new vehicles. Perhaps, visibility is not a requirement when your using "the force" for navigational purposes.

hahahahahaha ^^^^^^^
Dr.Experience 2/7/2014 5:34:16 AM Report

Thought they had a girl named Donna from the Sault on that show and I'm pretty sure she was asked to leave the show or she was kicked off....maybe she can try out!!!
AlgoBryan 2/7/2014 7:41:13 AM Report

Just recruit the cabbies !!!!!LOL
Nunavut 2/7/2014 7:46:21 AM Report

I nominate the guy in the Sault that drives the 4 door silver and black Jeep with vanity plates Ruts , that attempted to force me into oncoming traffic twice driving along Wellington last week when the road had only one and a half lanes.

Mr. Poster 2/7/2014 8:10:08 AM Report

This city has many worthy candidates for the show. I personally think that show is phony.
thumbs4208 2/7/2014 8:41:07 AM Report

They can set up shop and stay. Make SSM worst driver celebrities - because there are quite a few here.
dorothey 2/7/2014 8:45:04 AM Report

I think that lady from the soo that was on it before got her licence taken away ... which is good cause I watched when she was on .. it was scary!
D.Hasselhoff 2/7/2014 8:57:52 AM Report

I bet everyone that posted above is just perfect on the roads as well. So quick to point fingers in this city.
twofast4u20 2/7/2014 9:19:57 AM Report

All they have to do is sit at any of the merges in the Soo, it seems that people don't know what a yield sign is, or that you don't stop in the middle of a merge
fredman27273 2/7/2014 10:00:20 AM Report

Hate going to the Zoo, terrible drivers and many, many texters as well.
Tag33&1/3rd 2/7/2014 10:34:11 AM Report

That show is bull--its easy to fake being a bad driver---they all want to be the worst and it's obvious that they blow the testing on purpose! Stupidest show on tv!
GrammaDingbat54 2/7/2014 10:34:35 AM Report

Yes, she actually blamed the show for her license being taken away. Wasn't her fault, you see. **eyeroll**

My sister certainly would certainly be a candidate for the show but have to agree that half of the population of the Soo deserve to be nominated.
Nimrod 2/7/2014 11:02:40 AM Report

The show should feature the driving inspectors that give these terrible drivers their license in the first place!
Sam C 2/7/2014 11:46:30 AM Report

Nimrod... I find that comment very offensive.

The driving examiners do a fine job, and uphold a high standard for awarding licenses. What people do AFTER they pass their exam is up to them.

We DO have a lot of bad drivers here, but I can tell you there are bad drivers right across the province.

Part of the problem IS that there is no testing once a person gets their initial license, and traffic enforcement is spotty, at best. If we had to do a road test every 5 years or so, you'd see a lot less sloppiness in people's driving.
Drmcorpschick 2/7/2014 1:04:08 PM Report

The girl that was on the show last time from the soo had her license taken away because she said stop signs were suggestions
thera 2/7/2014 2:25:44 PM Report

I've watched every season of Canada's Worst Driver, the lady from the Sault got kicked off because she would drink and drive and admitted that she wouldn't stop. The show contacted local authorities and OPP and they caught up with her...
Nunavut 2/7/2014 2:27:16 PM Report

Sam.......Nimrod said inspectors not instructors.
But your post is rather self serving to have retests every five years, would keep instructors employed with refresh courses and Government coffers filled with new user fees.
Nope sometimes it just takes enforcing the existing rules we have. That is what police is for.....and public shaming of poor driving, and parents being an example to their future kid drivers.
jade 2/7/2014 4:40:18 PM Report

this show is a crock of shit all fake
SaultGuy78 2/7/2014 11:41:34 PM Report

Oh hell, they could do an entire season in this city...
Stugatzu 2/8/2014 4:57:37 PM Report

Sam C -- I'll outright say it.. driving examiners have a quota to fill with failures.

I remember with my own driver examination -- I started off with arguing with my examiner that the car I was using was a LeBarron, not a K-Car... and he wouldn't have it. I flat out told him... open the glove box.. pull out the owner's manual, and tell me what it says. Yup... I failed. I did everything by the book -- but apparently you can't point out an examiner's mistake.

You couldn't possibly convince me instructors have genuine intentions when it comes to passing/failing students. You also won't convince me that driving instructors are good drivers.

On numerous occasions I've been cut off, passed illegally, or witnessed rolling stops from who ever the older man that is an instructor for "Young Drivers".

I'm a commercial driver, I exclusively drive a local run -- and I see it almost daily. You won't convince this guy that instructors are concerned with the teaching correct driving techniques, or that they themselves can demonstrate them.
