Thank you, my snow-blowing guardian angel

Wednesday, January 29, 2014   by: SooToday.com Staff

SooToday.com received the following open letter recently from loyal reader Shauna Major, addressed to her snow-blowing guardian angel:

*************************
I am writing today to say thanks to someone I've never met.

I live close to the tennis courts on Henrietta Avenue, just so you know it's you I am talking about.

I want to say thank you, my guardian snow blowing angel.

You know who you are - and I'm sure you sit tickled with delight at the happiness you spread.

I know I would.

You are the one with a snow blower, and you must have watched me struggle with the snow float and shovel.

Unable to fling the snow to the top of the 10-foot snow bank.

Shovelling it onto the street, to the sidewalk, anywhere but in the driveway.

I'm so sorry to the pedestrians - I am doing my best during this snowmageddon.

You probably also saw how much air I would catch getting over the city-plough-hump that formed at the end of my driveway.

I would be out for the day and think "another two hours of shovelling will get the rest of the snow cleared once I get home."

You wait 'til I leave for the day.

Then you go outside with the frigid temperatures, and biting winds, and clear my driveway.

You don't leave a note so I can thank you personally.

So I can't leave a LCBO or Tim's gift card in your mailbox, as stealthily as you wield your snow blower down the street.

My driveway has been cleared TWICE in this manner while I was gone for the day.

I want to humbly and very gratefully say thank you, to that person on Henrietta street, right near the tennis courts.

Thank you dearly.

Thank you from the handle of my shovel.

Thank you from the struts of my car.

Thank you, my snow-blowing guardian angel.

Sincerely,
Shauna Major

I live right across the street from this lady. I'm out town right now. I have watched her struggle to clean her driveway so wanting to help but due to my health am unable to. I'm hoping that next year my health has improved enought so I can do both mine and hers. I think I know who it is he try's to help people that seem to be struggling. I know he has helped my wife and I out before.???

We moved recently and our next door neighbours have snowblowed our driveway several times while my husband and son were down with injuries.

In our old neighbourhood, our next door neighbour who was about 80 at the time would shovel up to 6 driveways by hand!

We need more people like this. Give a neighbour a hand. It feels good!

Ain't that the truth buddyjewel!! My neighbor has snowblowed my driveway twice this winter also, and it is such a wonderful feeling to come home expecting a couple hours of shoveling and seeing it already done!! Also, during our warm spell after the plow went buy and left a pile of heavy slush at the end of the driveway, a kind fellow with a plow truck offered to push it out from the end of the driveway even though I had no money to pay him to do so! So, Thanks to all of the amazing people out there willing to take time out of their day to help people clear their driveways!! Especially during a winter such as this with so much snow!

Shall I put my address down? :)

Congrats to the snow blowing angel.

I encourage all out there with a snow blower to help your neighbour.
Shoveling snow is one of the worst things you can physically do.
The court that I live on, pretty much everybody has a snow blower but we still help each other out.
I can do three driveways and burn about 1/3 of a tank of gas...essentially nothing.

Neighbor helping neighbor. Now that's awesome. In our neighborhood that's same thing happens. My snow blower went down. My neighbor knew this and did ours. A few times my neighbor being at work could not get to his. So I did his driveway with my snow blower. We all help one another.

Now that's an awesome story!!!
I pay a young man to do my driveway, but, every once in awhile in the early morning or late night, someone has done my driveway a couple of times, I don't know who, but, very grateful for the help cause the person who does mine has to do it in between his working hours.

Don't you just love having a guardian angel? I too was stranded this weekend. With my hubby away, I didn't even know where to start with all this snow!! Just as I pondered how I was ever going to get through it all, a man and his snowblower appeared coming down the middle of my street. I still don't know where he came from!

Heard a good teaching , on a gospel radio channel i had came across , while flicking stations , the moral of the story was to go about, acts such as this one or contributions to charity etc , anonymous, if wishing for a good deed to be notable.

@soowat

Sorry to hear that you got injured.

To back Soowat up, once I lived in a semi-detached home with a shared driveway (before I got a snowblower) and I used to shovel the entire driveway countless times. Once I was unable to shovel and came home to see that my neighbour had only shoveled exactly half the driveway… it was agrevating however it never changed my attitude towards life.

However, the problem with most people – they expect others to help them and when they don’t you say KMA. Consideration and compassion come from within – it is the type of person you are. If you have compassion, you will clean someone’s driveway whether or not they have ever done it for you. Don’t ever let other people’s attitude dictate your attitude! Be yourself - the type of person you know you are!

I have a snow blower and yes I actually love cleaning the driveway. For years no matter where I have lived I have cleaned my neighbour’s driveways across the street and on either side. If I was in a rush, I would at least do the large heavy build-up at the end of the driveway.

I believe I know who your snow-blowing guardian angel is. He is a thoughtful, ambitious, beautiful soul. I am very sure he is my eldest grandson. He is your neighbour and he would never let you or anyone else struggle without lending a hand.
CLT 1/30/2014 8:48:14 AM Report

Soowat

I would have to ask, what kind of neighbor are you.

Let me give you an example. I live in the P-patch and have a neighbor that is so disrespectful that I would not do his driveway ever. And it is not just me. The last storm we had he was out of town and guess what. No one did his driveway.

If you act like an idiot, you get treated like an idiot.
Piper555 1/30/2014 3:44:15 PM Report

I live in the east end and I saw that the snow plows went by and scraped the roads last week... My husband goes out of town quite often and both our baby and I had a terrible cold... I just looked at it and dreaded having to clear it... Just then, I saw my neighbour down the street with a tractor clearing his neighbours driveway end... I thought to myself, wouldn't that be wonderful if he came and did mine... I waited, and thought, how selfish of me to wish this, I will get to it later when baby is sleeping... I continued on with taking care of our baby and minutes later he was clearing my driveway! He did everyone's driveway ends on the the street! Thank you so much! You too are an angel...
