yes because when a mother and daughter are fighting and a voice of reason comes up, clearly a toaster should be thrown at said person.

you're a fool Gurpy

The boyfriend is not the girls father or the mom`s husband and should`ve stayed out of it unless mom requested assistance. If you do not agree with MY opinion, TOUGH!!

dust2 1/28/2014 12:20:24 PM Report

kids hate a lot of things, that doesn't mean they shouldn't have to deal with them. kids *can* be blind and stupid, it's ignorant to assume the reverse.

also why are you so upset over being called a fool. I have a small brain for that? come on, now who's raging hard?
dust2 1/28/2014 12:48:23 PM Report

holy crap you actually just advocated violence against someone for them just being a man. a mother and daughter are fighting and a man tries to help, gets hurt physically, and you promote that?

whatever issues you had with men before clearly has clouded your judgement. stop being a typical cliche man hater and show some respect for everyone. there was no information about who said what, so it's sad to see someone like you favor the side of the abuser. whatever personal issues you have, get them fixed. you're promoting violence for no reason.

"you go girl". god you're probably more awkward in real life.

dust2 1/28/2014 4:19:17 PM Report

you're the one who applauded the girl for smashing a toaster at a mans face for no reason other than the fact that he's a man. you were given information in regards to two females fighting, a man tries to calm the situation down and gets assaulted by the daughter. that's all we know, and you sided with the daughter.

if you want to sit there and post things like that, don't be stunned when someone calls you out on it. you give off a man-hating vibe from the previous posts, and you do need to 'grow up'. from school yard insults like 'you piece of trash' to classics like 'KISS MY BUTT', you're filled with no originality or logic in terms of having a rational discussion. you want to dish it, but you clearly can't take it. you talk about not asking for an opinion, last time I checked it's not up to you? guess what, take some of your own advice and 'skim down' if you don't like what I say.

I could be mistaken but I think she also was hinting at the man could be (how should I put this?) -- attracted to the girl? As I said-- I could be wrong but it appears she was hinting at that also!

What is Butt Dust?
B Boy 1/28/2014 4:52:13 PM Report

In my opinion even the headline doesn't take this domestic seriously. Imagine if the male was charged with hitting the female with a small appliance.

If people truly want to end domestic violence then you cannot pick & choose which type of violence is acceptable. No form of domestic violence can be tolerated, regardless of the variables.

For the sake of argument, if he didn't intervene and the altercation escalated, I'm sure there would be plenty of criticism for him not intervening. And yet in the above scenario, he did intervene & is being criticized for it.

dust2 1/28/2014 5:01:48 PM Report

@B Boy

Agreed, people are quick to judge and had a son smashed a toaster against his fathers girlfriends face, people would be saying how he should be locked up for years and publicly humiliated.

Domestic violence is a big issue, but ending domestic violence against women is not solving the problem. Domestic violence in a whole is wrong, so to focus solely on women is a big slap in the face to all the men who were abused emotionally and physically in their relationship.

Statistics back this up to, not only are women the lead initiators in divorce, they are the lead abusers in domestic violence. over half of all domestic violence cases are from the women being the abuser, not the man. the idea of the helpless wife being assaulted by her husband isn't the case, it's the reverse. both exist, at the same (roughly) level.

that's why domestic violence in general needs to end. not ending domestic violence against women, ending domestic violence against EVERYONE
shawnlynnn 1/28/2014 6:03:05 PM Report

Gurpy is either thirteen themself or extremely uneducated. Applauding someone for abusing another person, unacceptable.
Tag33&1/3rd 1/28/2014 6:07:46 PM Report

Ya agreed 'dust2 and b-boy'

I wonder who called the police? Was it him? Was it the mother? Was it emerg.?

Was alcohol and or drugs involved in the situation escalating it?

willoweep 1/28/2014 6:49:10 PM Report

Gurpy at the risk of being called names by you (how old are you?)

Your statements are better shared in the National Enquirer or as someone said Jerry Springer.

"we all know what boyfriends do to young Daughters?"

"Voice of reason while using Mom fro their own gratification"

"You go girl"

How do you know the Daughter wasn't banging Moms head against the Fridge ? what would you do ,go watch Tv?

Your Dad may well have been a rare one ,but I don't guess you take after him.

I am not at all surprised you are single.

To cheer on someone and think it's ok to throw a toaster oven at anyone ,says more about you than the kid who threw it.

Although I don't guess your much older than that kid .

Tag33&1/3rd 1/28/2014 6:50:25 PM Report

Its unfortunate but the reality sometimes is married parents or single parents with new partners, etc.. USE a lot of alcohol and/or drugs in front of their children and even WITH their children these days! Also including them in adult arguments where they shouldn't be included! Growing up in environments like that the kids know nothing else.

(I am definitely not saying that this is the situation here at all to be clear.)
willoweep 1/28/2014 6:59:10 PM Report

Tag 33/13 I understand that as well many of these situations ,which the Kid has no control over ,leave them frustrated ,and they lash out.

I think SooToday set the mood for this with" Mom's boyfriend is toast.Girl arrested"

Making a joke out of Domestic Violence , there is NOTHING funny about it !

Sootoday set the tone for this to be a joke ,sad.
dust2 1/28/2014 7:26:52 PM Report

You're right, but nothing will change as long as people in power share those same views. SooToday is a great example, they use a really sad (and arguably sexist) headline in a time when we should be ending domestic violence and focusing more on it.

As much as they shouldn't post a title like that, it would be fine if they did the equivalent for the reverse. Kind of like, "Dads girlfriend gets an earful. Boy arrested" when a fathers son stabs his fathers girlfriend in the ear. Would they ever post that headline? Of course not, you're supposed to NEVER hit a woman, but feel free to make fun of men and hurt them.

Anyway, nothing will change as long as people who view sexes like that are in power. Garbage like this will always be spewed out and will keep the hate train going.

How about that Gurpy person though, damn sucks to be him/her. Sounds pretty old rofl

For a second there I forgot what the article was about. Was it a domestic dispute involving a man, a woman, a daughter and a toaster or two posters named dust2 and Gurpy. Whatever it started as the dust2 and Gurpy show is the more entertaining.
SooToday Moderator 1/29/2014 9:18:55 AM Report

This title is in no way sexist, we often put the gender of the victim in the title when the name is not given to us from the police. Please try to focus on content when commenting and remember that a title is made to interest readers.
justsomeguy 1/29/2014 9:40:23 AM Report

The exception I took was that the title seems to poke fun at this domestic violence. In my opinion no domestic violence should ever be taken lightly whether it's a child, adult, woman or man who is the victim of the violence.

The fact that this still fails to be recognized disappoints me greatly.
