NEWS RELEASE

CRIME STOPPERS

*************************
In the early afternoon on the 15th of January, 2014, a lone female entered the Macs Mart on McNabb Street.

The staff assisted the female suspect, who was looking to purchase a phone charger.

The suspect fled the store with an undisclosed amount of phone chargers and was observed getting into a gold coloured Malibu with no rear plate.

The vehicle was driven by a thin male and was last seen driving south bound on Pine Street.

Also, an incident involving a theft of a cell phone was reported on the 20th of January, 2014, at Wal-Mart on Great Northern Road.

The suspect is described as a white male possibly in his early to mid 40s, wearing green/black ball cap, black leather jacket, white hoodie, blue jeans, black boots, small pony tail and gold hoop earrings.

The male was observed getting out of a 2005 white Ford 4x4 with tinted windows, step ups and a white tonneau cover.

The driver was female and she drove around the parking lot while waiting for him to make an exit.

While in the store the male suspect used an exacto knife to pry open a cell phone box.

The female grew impatient and decided to park the truck and go in the store looking for the male.

The male then proceeded out the front doors with the cell phone expecting to make his escape, but the vehicle wasn't waiting for him.

He was last seen running toward the Leon's parking lot.

Soon afterward the female was observed leaving the parking lot of Wal-Mart in the vehicle, she drove in the same direction of the male.

I hate to state the obvious, but how many of this particular model, colour and year of truck can there be in this town. Make a list of the addresses and Start driving by to see if any match up with the four door, two tone black bottom, running boards, tonneau cover, tinted windows, rims, looks like a 4X4 decal on the back and possibly a step side. Really, grab a coffee and start checking off the yes and no’s and go from there. You’re going to have to do this with the tips that come in anyway.

Great Idea Crime Stoppers. This truck may be registered in the surrounding area (north and east) not only in the Soo. If it's local someone will reconise it.

Can we see the Walmart surveillance video? Maybe the quality will be better!
It must be frustrating trying to solve this using grainy quality imagery. If the picture quality was better where you could at least read the plate number of the truck I'm sure the police could have had this wrapped up within the hour.
Mac's know their going to get robbed at some point, maybe more than once. Invest in some good quality cameras already!

The police have done all the obvious investigations. No plates may mean out of province or states side even. It is known that people will not commit crimes in their own city but travel elsewhere, even across the border. I´m sure they even checked cross border traffic. Further investigations may turn up crimes involving the same vehicle in other cities. It may have been stolen also.

They sell phone chargers at Macs?
The people drive around in a gas guzzling 2005 4x4 but can't afford a phone charger.

Persons may not be from our area? They maybe on the lam from crimes committed outside our jurisdiction with a stolen vehicle ... Maybe trying to steal a pay-as-you-go for untraceable (throw away) communication. People may not be as dumb as you think.

sootoday has confused some people. this is an article about two separate incidents. the woman shown is for the macs store theft while the white truck is for the walmart theft. isn't there a video showing the woman that was driving the white truck? what happened to the box that the cell phone was stolen from, cant the police get fingerprints or something? really how hard is this crime to solve. im pretty sure that there aren't too many of those white trucks around..its not a common looking truck.
lucky10 1/28/2014 1:42:02 PM Report

Sorry not a 2005 F-150 .. 2004 and 2005 ford F-150 had rectangle fog lights in front bumper . The truck in the video has round fog lights which makes it 2006 or newer . Not that it matters much just an observation
V-max 1/29/2014 9:47:21 AM Report

Yeah, what is it with these poor quality video cameras; useless. Good observation about the headlights. Are you kidding me? Fingerprints. Good idea but when was the last time the cops took fingerprints. I had a break and enter on my truck and they didn't even get out of their car let alone take finger prints. Just saying and venting.
