If you check the weather channel they say 1 to 3 cm in the next 24 hours. They are either not up to date or someone's forecast is way off.
Just Curious 1/19/2014 11:06:02 AM Report

Not so much the amount, it's that it won't lay still....:)
Montec 125 1/19/2014 11:44:07 AM Report

Saw the 1-3 cm. for this morning and less than 1 cm this afternoon. The weather channel does not seem to have much of a track record when it comes to snow fall. I use the Montreal River radar sight which gives you what is really actually happening, a colour coded bar with the snowfall amounts per hour and the direction that the weather front is traveling. Believe it is from the same Govt. weather service but seems to be much more accurate than the Weather Channel. Can smell an budget cut. I've measured 185 cm.(74") of snowfall since Nov. 22/13 to now at my location near top of Goulais Ave.
Pakadeva 1/19/2014 12:12:12 PM Report

There's a lot more than 3 centimetres down already AND the roads are like grease! I made one short trip & the roads are not fit to be on + An accident involving 2 or 3 vehicles already as I drove by it on Northern.
A good day to stay home, that's what I'm gonna do for the rest of it!

someone can correct me but forecasts don't necessarily include lake effect do they? lake effect snow is a little more unpredictable.
sportsman 1/19/2014 1:43:12 PM Report

With the lakes almost frozen over there should be less snowfall. What happened?
Sam C 1/19/2014 2:08:16 PM Report

Dictionary... the forecast does recognize lake-effect snowfall, but as you say it is difficult to predict the amount.

Was in Thessalon this morning, and they had about 10cm over night, with more falling and blowing.

Forecasts foretell the future, and that is something we have not, and probably will never perfect. This includes waether forecasts because there are just too many variables involved, as in, "anything can happen".
S.M.A.R.T. 1/19/2014 2:47:07 PM Report

I konw. Weather, not waether. A good, believable example of a typo. Unlike believe vs. beleive.
S.M.A.R.T. 1/19/2014 2:50:59 PM Report

konw?!?! Must be the low pressure system or a new radio station. KONW, River Cityyyyyy.

Retreaded. Finally a chance to do and say something useful. Thank you. Go to (or Google) Sault Ste. Marie - Forecast - Environment Canada. Once on site look to the right of Current Conditions, click on the middle option RADAR, and presto, Montreal River Harbour Radar. Hope you find it useful.
