Celebrate Martin Luther King Day with Terri

LSSU welcomes Terri C. Houston on Martin Luther King Day

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI - - Lake Superior State University invites the community to hear a presentation in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. at 7 p.m. on Monday, January 20, in the Walker Cisler Center’s Superior Room.

Terri C. Houston, a higher education consultant and certified life coach, will present From Emmett Till to Trayvon Martin: Was Dr. King’s Dream a Nightmare?

Admission is free and open to the public.

A reception in LSSU’s Native American Center will follow.

Houston has been teaching and training students, college administrators, and business professionals for 25 years.

Her progressive higher education experience, coupled with her enthusiastic leadership style, has helped countless universities, community groups and businesses build strong inclusive organizations and has assisted thousands in finding their purpose and establishing their visions.

She is a widely sought speaker whose persuasive, energetic and humorous message of visionary leadership entertains audience as well as educates them.

She frequently consults and lectures around the country on topics ranging from leadership and organizational development, educational and career advancement, and personal and professional engagement.

As a certified life coach, Houston said she wholeheartedly believes “no power is greater than the higher power within.”  

Houston was senior director of recruitment and multicultural programs for 13 years at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

As part of her work there in 2012, she brought in Andrew Young, a former aide to Martin Luther King Jr. as well as a Congressman and United Nations ambassador, to speak during King Day programs there.

She previously worked at Iowa State University as an assistant dean of students and was director of student activities and leadership at Ferris State University.

A native of Chicago, she has traveled around the world through the University of Virginia’s Semester at Sea Program.

She holds a bachelor’s degree from Loras College of Dubuque, Iowa and a master’s degree in counselor education from Central Michigan University.

She is a certified diversity and safe-zone trainer and professionally accredited through the Central Association of College and University Business Officers.  

Additionally, she is a faculty member with the Center for Leadership Development and serves on national boards and associations.

Emmitt till and trayvon martin have nothing to do with eachother. This woman is probably justanother extremist like jesse jackson or al sharpton.
