On January 10, 2014 at 2:25 a.m. an officer from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment was monitoring traffic on Causley Street in Blind River.

The officer observed a male approaching from the rear to the driver’s window with a weapon in his hand.

The officer reversed the cruiser from the immediate area for safety then after a short altercation the male was arrested without further incident.

The accused made further threats to harm police.

As a result 32-year-old John Martin Recollet of Blind River is charged with the following criminal offences:

1) Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, section 88 of the Criminal Code

2) Uttering a threat (2 counts), section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code

He is being held for a bail hearing in Sault Ste Marie at a later date.

That's not good that someone would attempt to put an officers life in danger like that. At the same time, the OPP (Blind River) aren't the politest police.

Polite or not, there's absolutely no excuse for attempting to harm one of our Police officers, they put life & limb on the line daily for all of us.
