NEWS RELEASE

U.S. CUSTOMS AND BORDER PROTECTION

SAULT STE MARIE, MI - U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Field Operations announced improvements made to the Sault Ste. Marie’s Port of Entry to help reduce wait times during peak traffic periods.

A new primary inspection booth has been installed in a lane initially intended for commercial buses.

This fully functional lane will increase capacity of inbound vehicular traffic and help decrease wait times on the International Bridge.

“We are constantly working with our partners at MDOT to improve our operations at the port of entry.  The addition of a fully functional traffic lane will help facilitate legitimate travel and trade at the border,” stated Port Director Patrick Wilson.

CBP

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between official ports of entry.

CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.

Kinda funny - the US side has improved their customs 3 times in the last few years, ours is just getting going now for the first time after years of talking. Hmm.

I don't understand this....maybe if they just opened all the booths??? wouldn't that be the easiest answer? tourists don't wanna wait in line. .and neither does anyone else!

The US improvements were corrections of previous screw-ups. And they`ve got another major one coming.

@ Itsme

I Agree, A new both when you never see all the ones they already have opened all at once.

Saw the new booth last night being used. Such a huge help. Now the upper level, right lane can get marginally faster. Never mind the traffic jam to get to it. That whole building is a study in poor design. From the grass/weed roof, to the insufficient approach lanes, to the congestion prior to the toll booth. Awesomely asinine.

Open a full time nexus lane ... I dont really care if everyone else waits I just want preferential treatment !!

I dont see it as being rewarded for having a nexus card as much as being rewarded for making enough right life decisions to NOT have a criminal record allowing me to have a nexus card !!
