Support your local Olympians - Team Jacobs

Wednesday, January 08, 2014   by: SooToday.com Staff

Tuesday, January 28 is the date.

Mark it on your calendar.

That's when 500 lucky folks get to show their support for Team Jacobs, community's own Olympic team.

Not only do folks who purchase a ticket or table for this event get to help send the Soo Curlers Association foremost men's curling team to Sochi, Russia for the 2014 Winter Olympics they will have plenty of opportunities to bid items in a silent auction or purchase raffle tickets on other cool stuff.

Team Jacobs will be there at Comfort Suites to schmooze with supporters and enjoy a great dinner and dance, too.

Cocktails time begins at 6 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6:45 p.m.

Dinner menu:

  • In house baked breads
  • House salad
  • Roasted chicken
  • Italian Wedge Potatoes
  • Dessert
  • Coffee & Tea

A cash bar will be available and cost for the event is $60 per person or $600 for a 10-person table.

Some 8-person tables available for $480 all to assist Team Jacob's family members to travel to Sochi to support the team.

Buy tickets with cash or cheques at Comfort Suites on Great Northern Road; email team.jacobs.curling@gmail.com, or pick them up at the Soo Curlers Association.

If the families want a holiday in Russia let them make a loan and pay their own way.

Nobody's forcing either of you knuckleheads to go!! The only thing that can be better for these guys then winning a gold medal, would be doing it with their families there!! I'm pretty sure you morons would be looking for a handout too, if you were in the same position!! I think it's a great idea!!

Wife and RJS are you two a couple. A couple of idiots perhaps. Nobody is demanding you support these saultites and their families. If you are not proud of the accomplishments of these locals please keep your idiotic comments to yourselves. This is a good time for the community to show their pride and support for these world class athletes and their families. Good luck and go for gold.
Me Myself an I 1/9/2014 6:54:47 AM Report

Olympic athletes do this all the time so their families can be at this once in a lifetime chance. Why is it a bad thing?
Stevie-E 1/9/2014 8:51:49 AM Report

How many of you haters out there have kids who go door to door or ask you to sell chocolate bars at the office?

It's a fundraiser dinner and local teams do it all the time! I probably would have left out the fact that "Some 8-person tables available for $480 all to assist Team Jacob's family members to travel to Sochi to support the team" ... I agree with supporting the team but the family members too? I think it was just bad taste to put that in there - don't say anything and let the money fall where it may.

Either way, $60 for a night out with some locals sounds good to me. This is a great way to get people out into the community instead of sitting inside all winter.

Be proud of your community and those who succeed in it. If you are that angry, then perhaps you should do something about it, like leave town and don't come back or at least don't read good news stories online.

This is ridiculous! Idiots everywhere...SMH
Armateo 2/5/2014 10:45:16 AM Report

Hey, I really want to go to Cancun! But I dont have enough money. I'm going to set up a fundraising event for people to show their support and send me on vacation!

Seriously, how selfish do you have to be to ask a city for money to send yourself on a trip. Not even attempt to pay for themselves, or even a portion...even though the families and Team Jacobs have money...and jobs. How low can you get?

I can't believe people fell for this scam. Needless to say, I will not be supporting Team Jacobs.
