SAULT STE. MARIE - Johnny Pints Presents is excited to announce the booking of Anvil for three dates in Northern Ontario.

The tour will take place March 14 - 16, 2014, and will make stops in Sudbury, Sault Ste. Marie and North Bay.

Really? I'm sorry this is just laughable. ANVIL??? LOL...I mean good for the promoter to try and bring some acts to this city, but this is the bottom of the barrel.

Can we get actual acts with #1 hits..... Luke Bryan would be nice!
LRP 1/6/2014 10:31:13 PM Report

Anvil was and still is a great Canadian Heavy Metal Icon. They are a great touring band and I personally know many people who are thrilled by this news. Comparing Anvil to Luke Bryant is a joke. I have a large amount of experience with band promotion (I have actually booked and worked with Anvil about 8 years back - GREAT guys!) Bands like Luke Bryant want many thousands of dollars to do a concert, especially because we are by touring bands standards "isolated". They usually ask for it ALL up front (out of your pocket) or a large portion just to secure a date with them. Not to mention the cost to rent out the Essar Center for the night; the cost of sound and lights for the venue, as well as security personnel, the cost to staff other areas. You will need insurance up the wazoo and you must pay for the police and EMS on stand by as well. Most of which again needs to be paid up front; and lets not forget the bands "rider" which includes but not limited to demands for specific foods, drinks, Televisions with specific movies/gaming consoles, the finest hotel rooms we have to offer plus much more. Lets not forget the complainers... oh yes, the ones that will fuss about the cost of the tickets. They will give you a hard time and post rude negative comments on your news articles promoting the great job your doing (Oh we forgot the cost of promotion $$$$$!) A the rate the cost of this concert is going you will need at LEAST $100 a ticket and SELL OUT to just break even, never mind turn a profit, and after MANY months of spending a great deal of your time on this one concert, you would like to see a profit I would think however the sad part about it is you may or may not. You may end up having to pay out of your own pocket... You signed a contract agreeing to provide the $$ for all of this stuff. That is the risk EVERY promoter takes, regardless of the size.

For the people who are complaining about the "lack" of #1er's being booked here in Sault Ste. Marie: Please by all means dip into your bank account and book those shows yourself. It could be very profitable for you if you can figure it out. Until then shut your yap be proud that you live in a city that still has a few people trying to bring in new music by whatever means they can. To those promoters, thank you :)

@LRP Anvil are Heavy Metal Icons, just because you idea of metal begins and ends with Poison does not change that fact.

The difference is Luke Bryant can actually play guitar and sing. Screaming into a microphone is not music. Hell, my 4 year kid can cry into a microphone if you want. I hope the 20 people who show up have fun.
johnnypints 1/7/2014 12:18:34 PM Report

Thanks for the support all! RobMel, I couldn't have really said it better myself. You saved me a lot of typing haha. Luke Bryant is a better and more accomplished musician?.... he may be talented and write songs you like but his body of work is not even comparable at this point and there's not even a chance in heck he can touch most metal guitarists for sheer skill. Im glad you enjoy his art and that you're supporting the artists you like but comparing them isn't even possible. It's all subjective ( p.s. I anticipate a sellout crowd and Anvil was packed the last time they were here.)

Spoken like a true idiot Rob. If I were a betting man, I'd say you have a kid or two you don't see, you are either on disability or work at a bar somewhere and enjoy sitting around in your boxers playing Call of Duty 20 hours a day while waiting for your government cheque to come in.
LRP 1/7/2014 1:53:16 PM Report

To Me Myself and I:

Can either of the three of you explain what you're talking about?

You said to me... "Anvil are Heavy Metal Icons, just because you idea of metal begins and ends with Poison does not change that fact."

Ok.. just looked it up. Poison is a heavy metal band.
And you have no idea what my idea of "metal" is. I suspect you meant heavy metal.
However, I did look it up. I think it's quite a good definition, actually.

"With roots in blues rock and psychedelic rock, the bands that created heavy metal developed a thick, massive sound, characterized by highly amplified distortion, extended guitar solos, emphatic beats, and overall loudness. Heavy metal lyrics and performance styles are often associated with masculinity, aggression and machismo."

Yup. Sounds about right. I hope all three of you enjoy your icons.

K well do i ever have a mouthful on this thread but others have already stated facts so going to save me the time and can say that ANVIL definetly do not need to make a point in who they are or where they have been or how long they been around for!!! The um ignorant people that dont appreciate metal at their finest are exactly that!!! Ignorany and obviously dont know their metal and shouldnt be calling themselves metal heads if legends like this are not appreciated!! Check out how many albums they have!!! Check out their movie!!! They have been going hard for decades!!! These shows will be amazing and i shall see u all on the road!!!! metal pounder till the end!!!
