Jean Elizabeth DeCourcy: 1917-2013

Saturday, December 28, 2013   by: Staff has received the following notice from Arthur Funeral Home and Cremation Centre regarding Jean Elizabeth DeCourcy who, with her husband Jack, established and ran the Bel Air Motel in Sault Ste. Marie from 1954 to 1974.

The family regrets to announce Jean’s passing on Christmas Eve at the F.J. Davey Home in her 97th  year.

Loving wife of the late J.B. (Jack) DeCourcy (2004). Loved mom of Garry and Allan and their spouses Beverley and Margaret.  

Cherished Grandma of Christine (Kiley), Sean (Amanda), Darren (Roberta), Meaghan (Michael) and Claire (John).  

Loved Great Grandma of Ava, Stella and Jack.  

Jean is survived by one brother Walter Moskwa (Winnipeg), two sisters-in-law Nettie Moskwa (Red Lake) and Joan Oknianski (Sault Ste. Marie) and many nieces and nephews.  

She was the daughter of Jan and Katazyna Moskwa, immigrant Polish farmers who settled in Prawda, Manitoba and raised a family of 6 girls and 4 boys.  

She and Jack established the family business, The Bel Air Motel (1954 – 1974).  

Her love of music and dancing were an important aspect of her life.

Friends may call at the Arthur Funeral Home & Cremation Centre on Monday, December 30, 2013 from 7 – 9 p.m.  

Funeral mass to be celebrated on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Precious Blood Cathedral.  

Rev. Hamish Currie officiating.  

Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.  

Memorial contributions to A.R.C.H. or the F.J. Davey Home Activities would be appreciated by the family.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Davey Home for making Jean’s 7-year stay both comfortable and happy.

I would like to extend my condolences to the family of this lady. I do however, with all due respect, have a question. Why is this considered a news item as opposed to an obituary?
