NEWS RELEASE

SAULT STE. MARIE POLICE SERVICE

*************************
On December 18th at approximately 3:45 a.m., Sault Ste. Marie Police received a call from an Employee of Northern Fencing.

The caller stated that he had attended the business yard on Cedar Street and observed that the fence had been pushed over and a Bobcat Skid Steer was missing.

He followed the tracks in the snow and observed the machine being driven on McNabb Street.

Police attended and were able to stop the vehicle without incident. It was also observed at this time that a snow plow blade had been attached to the machine with ratchet straps.

A demand was made for the driver to provide a breath sample into a roadside screening device and he refused to do so.

Wendell McKay, age 41, of the 400-block of Parliament Street is charged with two counts of theft over $5000 (one for the Bobcat and one for the snow plow), one count of possession of stolen property over $5000, one count of mischief over $5000 for damage to the fence and one count of fail to provide a breath sample.

He will be appearing in bail court tomorrow.

Nice try Wendell,

Hey, at least he didn't expose his genitals publicly in the middle of the afternoon. Thanks for that. *shudders*

I guess now you can do that to your buddies in jail......

I live in the McNabb St. area. Your headline is irresponsible. I learned a long time ago not to take your news seriously, so I quickly read the article. There are a lot of people who won't or can't and you are scaring or provoking them unnecessarily.

Longing for the integrity of Dave Helwig...
Working Man 12/18/2013 8:16:11 PM Report

SunniDelight,

When I clicked on this particular headline, I intended to get a story about a person stealing a Bobcat machine from a business and that is exactly what I received, now I just know the business and name of the guy involved.

I hope nobody was stupid enough to think that some wild animal was running up mcnabb st.

I do agree that some of their headlines are just to get clicks. And I agree that Sootoday acts irresponsible and immature sometimes. I also think that the Sault Star has much better news and writing skills(Watch for them to delete this post)!! LOL

Agreed workingman - blackspruce you saw not seen .
Sam C 12/18/2013 9:34:04 PM Report

Sorry, Sunni... while I initially thought the headline was referring to the wild feline, I did find it a cute play on words.

Re-reading the headline I noticed that "Bobcat" was capitalized, as it would be for a brand name.

As well, if it were a wild cat why would there be "charges laid"?
Pakadeva 12/18/2013 10:13:31 PM Report

Hahaha Sam,lay charges for an animal seen. I appreciate the cute headlines sometimes & often read a post that I would have been sorry to miss, so, we can't please all the people all the time. I immediately knew it was a brand name as well, at least I expected that.
We could analyse a pencil mark to death on here!

OMG.
"Longing for the integrity of Dave Helwig". Now that is funny. His headlines were far more disparaging, and clever.
S.M.A.R.T. 12/19/2013 1:26:15 AM Report

I really don't know how some people can get all bent out of joint over this kind of playful headline. I guess they're simply in a "whirl" of their own. Time to chill folks. Stick your nose out the door and take a deep breath.
Sam The Dog 12/19/2013 7:01:25 AM Report

Wendall, Wendall, Wendall tisk, tisk. We are going to have to add you to "Dum Ass of the Year". Stealing a wheeled machine in December? Who ever would have thought it would leave tracks?

Bobcat nice and new. Cougars in the sault are all getting bad mileage on them
matt_1517 12/19/2013 8:11:00 AM Report

I think it's hilarious how many people are whining about Sootoday being misleading , and "tricking" people into clicking on certain stories, If you don't like it find another website to go to!!!! Nobody is forcing you to be here!!!!!
crashed13 12/19/2013 10:21:46 AM Report

You can get charged with thief of a object and charged with possession of that same object as well?
Is it not one in the same?
How can you steal something and not be in possession of it?

Who makes up these overcomplicated laws?
bemo13 12/19/2013 10:21:49 AM Report

wow. imagine letting your entire day just be RUINED over the title of an article? don't blame dave helwig for your lack of sense of humour. also, it's about time wendall gets caught for his stupidity.
crashed13 12/19/2013 10:59:47 AM Report

Even if it was a real Bob Cat ,you do not need to hide under your bed.
They are a lot smaller then a bagel tiger.
mikey2007 12/19/2013 12:41:49 PM Report

Helwig's headlines were 100 times worse.
Tag33&1/3rd 12/19/2013 3:04:25 PM Report

I couldn't sleep last night I was so upset about being mislead from the title of the headline! I hope I can sleep tonite! :)
