The qualifiers include Team Horgan from Sudbury who went undefeated during weekend play.
Other qualifiers include Team Kallos from Thunder Bay, Team Lilly from North Bay and Team Premo from Soo Curlers.
The Sault rinks includes skip Dawna Premo, third Lindsay Miners, second Megan St. Amand, and lead Michelle MacLeod.
The fifth player on the Sault team is Kelly McLellan.
These were the first teams to qualify for January’s Ontario Scotties which will be played at Soo Curlers on Anita Boulevard.
Meanwhile during playdowns in the eastern and western Ontario competitions, Team Auld from Mississauga and Team Nicol from Toronto will advance to the Ontario Scotties along with Team Middaugh from Coldwater and Team Flaxey of Listowel.
There will be an east and west challenge round in southern Ontario this week to qualify the final two teams.
The top ten women’s curling teams from across the province will hit the ice at the Soo Curlers rink on Anita Boulevard January 6-12, 2014, vying to become Ontario’s representative at the national women’s curling championship, the Scott Tournament of Hearts in Montreal in February 2014.
Teams will arrive Sunday, January 5 and begin the competition the following day, culminating with the championship game Sunday, January 12.
All of the games will be played on the ice at the Soo Curlers rink.
More than 100 local volunteers will be supporting the event in jobs ranging from team hospitality and transportation to on-ice officiating.
Many of the volunteers were on hand today for the launch ceremonies.
Event passes and tickets for the January curling championship are now on sale at Soo Curlers on Anita Boulevard.
