Someone reports drunk driver. Barry arrested and charged

Tip from public leads to impaired charge

WAWA, ON - On December 9, 2013 just after 10:30 p.m. the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Superior East Wawa and White River Detachments were advised by a member of the public of a possible impaired driver on Highway 17 between the two communities.

The vehicle, a 1997 Lincoln Town Car was located in Wawa on Mission Road approximately one hour later. 

Based on a number of investigative observations made by the OPP officer the driver was arrested. 

The driver was taken to the Wawa OPP Detachment for the purpose of completing Intoxylizer tests.

As a result of the investigative steps taken by the OPP, Barry Baker, 43, of Manitouwadge, Ontario, has been charged with;

  • Drive Motor Vehicle with Blood Alcohol over 80 mgs.
  • Drive while Disqualified
  • Drive while under Suspension – 4 counts

The accused was also apprehended on the strength of a Warrant of Apprehension and Suspension from Correction Service Canada. 

His parole was revoked as a result of these charges. 

He was transported to Sault Ste Marie for Bail Court.

As a matter of fact, why are we getting any news that doesn't pertain to the street I live on.

Actually some people want to know about drunk, disqualified and dangerous drivers. If you don't care about the info being there it still doesn't hurt anyone, except sometimes the individual(s) listed but they have made poor decisions.

If they report them when they see them then you could save mine, yours or someone else's loved one(s) this holiday season even.

By the look of his driving record thus far.. Nothing is keeping him off the road .. so there will be a next time.

It would appear the police are doing a great job getting him off the road and to court where it appears our legal system is waiting for something more serious to put him away .

Makes you wonder if it has to be a single fatality or a multiple fatality accident for the court to deal with this? A pretty sorry system we have..
