Friday, December 06, 2013   by: Brad Coccimiglio

The Soo Greyhounds are back in action on Friday night as they continue a stretch of three games on the road in Plymouth, MI against the Whalers.

Friday marks the second of six meetings between the two clubs.

The teams last met on Oct. 11 in Sault Ste. Marie when the Greyhounds picked up a 3-2 win over the Whalers. Tyler Gaudet had the game-winner for the Greyhounds and an assist in the win. Winger Jean Dupuy had a goal in the game as well, which was his first as a member of the Greyhounds.

The Greyhounds are coming off a road-trip opening 3-2 loss on Wednesday night in London. Matt Murray made 33 saves in the loss while David Miller and Jared McCann scored for the Greyhounds. Full details from the game can be found here.

The Whalers were last in action on Saturday night in Owen Sound where they dropped a 3-2 shootout decision to the Attack. Whalers goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic stopped 46 shots in the loss. Victor Crus Rydberg and former Greyhound Gianluca Curcuruto had a goal and an assist each for the Whalers

The Greyhounds enter action on Friday night with a record of 19-6-0-3, good for 41 points and top spot in the OHL’s West Division. They remain seven points ahead of the Windsor Spitfires and Saginaw Spirit who are tied for second with 34 points. The Whalers are nine points behind the Spitfires and Spirit with 25 points and a record of 11-15-0-3.

The Whalers have played much of the last month without the services of forward Ryan Hartman. The Chicago Blackhawks first round pick has been out of the Whalers lineup due to injury. He last played on Nov. 9 against Windsor.

The 19-year-old centre had 21 points in 20 games prior to injury.

The Hounds make me feel so proud. I understand that at the London game last Wed. the Hounds actually helped pick up teddy bears after the teddy bear toss while London players used their sticks to push the bears to a pile. Also the team stopped off in Detroit to watch the Detroit team practice and the Hounds were all dressed in their suits. Very smart guys.
