Way to go, Braydon!

Thursday, December 05, 2013   by: Staff

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Sault Ste. Marie is very proud to announce that one of our local Little Brothers, 16 year old Braydon Middaugh, was chosen earlier this year as a recipient of the CIBC Youthvision Scholarship Program.

The CIBC Youthvision Scholarship Program selected 33 recipients form across Canada.
The applicants are evaluated based on academic transcripts, input provided by the mentor/ Big Brother or Big Sister and the caseworker/YMCA youth worker.
In addition to academic potential, the Selection Committee takes into consideration the student's involvement in extra-curricular activities at home, school and in the community, as well as the student's future educational aspirations.

"Through the Big Brothers Association I was selected to apply for and awarded a $38,000 scholarship through C.I.B.C Youth vision Scholarship Program", said Middaugh.
"This past June 2013 I was flown to Toronto along with approximately 30 others across Canada to receive my Scholarship award. This was most amazing and has given me opportunities I may have otherwise not had.  This has taken the weight off my families' shoulders in regards to my future schooling, and opening many new careers to me", he continues.
"Being with the Big Brothers Big Sisters Association has also given me a very rewarding job opportunity at the YMCA working in summer camps at Camp Korah as a camp counselor. I met many people through this job opportunity and have learned so much from it as well. I look forward to returning each summer to the YMCA as well as a camp counselor to work with children."

Each winner will receive a scholarship worth $38,000.00 which is comprised of six summer internships through the YMCA, which begins after Grade 10, and $4,000.00 annual contribution towards tuition at a post-secondary institution for four years.
They continue to receive ongoing mentoring from either Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada or the YMCA until they graduate from their post-secondary education.
