How to be featured as Art of the Day

Wednesday, December 04, 2013   by: Staff

SAULT STE. MARIE - The Arts Council of Sault Ste. Marie and District is thrilled to announce their new project: Art of the Day, a new way to promote the Sault and area artists online.

"Art of the Day will be used to promote all forms of art, be it painting, poetry, music, or any type of art you can think of, through our new website," says Lisa Vezeau-Allen, executive director of the Arts Council of Sault Ste. Marie and District.

"Just send us your photos or YouTube links, and we can feature them on our website, promote them through social media, and, get people talking about them."

Local artists of all disciplines are invited to send photographs or PDFs of their artwork to with the subject line "Art of the Day" to be featured on the Arts Council's website,, for a day.

To be featured, visual artwork should be either 1,200 by 400 pixels or be square.

If art work does not follow these dimension requirements, Arts Council staff will feature a portion of the image, and viewers can click on this to see the full version, or view/listen to any sound or video clips.

Artists should make sure to include their name, title of their pieces, and contact information when sending their work.

"We don't just want to feature the artwork, but we also want to get people to engage with it and enjoy it."

To encourage engagement, when viewers click on the image on the home page, they will be taken to a full gallery of art of the day pieces where they can leave their comments, ideas, and questions, and generally converse about art.

The Arts Council's website also offers other opportunities for promotion including the option for everyone to post their arts events for free and have them included in the Arts Council's publications, including their magazine and newsletter.

Arts Council Members can also post profiles on where they can share a bit about their art form, include a link to their own website, and post examples of their art.

A link to instructions is included on the header of the home page.

"The Arts Council wants our website to be a place where everyone can go to find arts events, locate any type of artist they're looking for, and just converse about art. We think Art of the Day is a great place to start," says Vezeau-Allen.
