Well that's the thing about living in a great nation Like Canada. Everyone can speak with out being censored. Even the ignorant has a voice. To silence that is tyranny. That's why the web browser has a scroll bar. TO IGNORE COMMENTS
scoobie doo 12/3/2013 11:41:59 AM Report

Just one more moronic comment to add to really long list on this site lol

these guys work out all the time, but I bet most of you only get a work out when you carry your 24 out of the beer store and know nothing about the routine of an athlete.

Go team Jacobs!! Looking good against Howard this morning.
sinikka 12/3/2013 11:43:12 AM Report

however comments can be considered libelous unless of course the writer can provide proof of the claim. Can we just cheer for a local without the constant criticism. Best of luck toe the Jacobs rink.
theprotector 12/3/2013 11:57:29 AM Report

and so what if they did/do steriods...its not a real sport its a game!

Sam C 12/3/2013 12:33:04 PM Report

Verado... it's called "working out." Most athletes don't take that short cut.
Sam C 12/3/2013 12:33:47 PM Report

protector... I beg to differ. Curling is as much of a sport as any other.
crimsonpro 12/3/2013 12:36:16 PM Report

Although people can debate all day long whether or not curling is a sport, it is governed by the IOC and also by sports Canada and these athletes get tested all the time. Canada would not send a team to the Olympics to have them test positive and get a potential medal removed, nor would these guys want to ruin their reputation. They are 100% clean and legit. People need to use their common sense or do some slight research before posting stupid comments...
theprotector 12/3/2013 1:17:40 PM Report

no it isnt...its like golf, a game!
Sam The Dog 12/3/2013 1:27:48 PM Report

Game? Sport? Both? Who Cares, there is many of us that love to watch curling and are DAM PROUD of our Local Team. Go Team Jacobs, take it all the way to Russia! If you don't think Curling isn't a sport worth watching then don't watch but there must be alot of us watching or else TSN wouldn't be Televising every Draw.
scoobie doo 12/3/2013 2:17:25 PM Report

not a sport but a game?? yet another moronic comment on sootoday... the number count gets higher and higher!

lot's of so called "games" are considered sports... ie, hockey, football, volleyball (there's a pretty long list of games that nobody would argue are also sports) tiddlywinks and chess are games... curling is a sport.... ((face palm))
theprotector 12/3/2013 2:41:44 PM Report

bahahahaha suck it up dog breath! If your cardio does not increase for a steady 15 minutes its a game and not a sport.

Just a few sports

Point is .. there are lot of games that are sports and vise versa..!
Number One Son 12/4/2013 11:36:52 AM Report

If you want to get good results, google Roar of the Rings 2013 results for the best coverage and complete line score.

On another note, I have played many sports both competitive recreational such as baseball, hockey, lacrosse, football, and curling. Trust me, curling IS a sport. I know these guys and they don't do the drug thing. They work hard to be where they are and are not about to screw things up.

Competitive curling is so close that any of the top three teams can not only win, but will be great representatives in Socchi, .... good luck team Jacobs!
SimsDrum 12/4/2013 4:02:08 PM Report

This coverage is 2 days behind. Why even
the machine 12/4/2013 4:06:45 PM Report

They should get rid of Fry! He's constantly trying to overule jacobs' decisions. I understand it's a team sport and their input is essential but this guy is on a different level. Even when they are yelling not to sweep he sweeps. It's like he's being purposely defiant. If he wants to be the skipper he should form his own team.

He probably has the 'little man syndrome'

the machine 12/4/2013 4:09:25 PM Report

... I noticed his behaviour last year and it seems to be continuing this year. The skip is the "boss" and his call is the final one!
Get it fry?
HowAbooutSomeLogic 12/4/2013 4:10:22 PM Report

@Number1 "I know these guys and they don't do the drug thing"

Your words and appeal to authority mean little to those of us who know the boys well enough to have seen at least one of them use in years past and more than one smoke the green (if you consider that a 'drug thing')

I don't care what others think and I don't care if any of them still use. Their bodies; their choice. The vast majority of you feel compelled to ruin your bodies with GMOs everyday and that is certainly your prerogative as well...but it's a little different with the boys 'cause at this point, whether they want to or not, they're representing all Canadians so I do care that they never test positive.

All the best and good luck to them!

I won't watch them on tv as long as monsanto sponsors curling, though.

the machine 12/4/2013 4:12:57 PM Report

What is monsanto and why?
Just curious...
the machine 12/4/2013 4:17:07 PM Report

I felt the same way about crimson ridge golf club for awhile. As long as there were certain owners involved there i refused to support it because some of the comments made by one of the previous owners and how he felt towards a certain group if people.
HowAbooutSomeLogic 12/4/2013 4:40:44 PM Report

In short (since you have an internet connection and I've got dinner to attend to lol) Monsanto is a fascist corporation that censors scientific studies showing their genetically modified seeds/foods to be unsafe and tumour causing while cherry picking data for their own 'studies' that 'prove' its safety and, having paid off enough politicians, have managed to keep their products on the shelves in NA (minus Mexico which has even recently banned their garbage) having been deemed illegal and unfit for human consumption in many other parts of the world.

When it's all said and done, imo, they will have killed more people than just about any other corporation in human history, up there with TEPCO and THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA CO. and to date have a hand in the invention, production and resulting death of such things as PCBs, DDT, Agent Orange, bovine growth hormone, aspartame and even the 'new clear' bomb.

They're a real class act...

TOO BAD-suck it up!!

Must be a fry supporter...well guess what? You're not the skip of this team either. Lol
the machine 12/4/2013 6:14:00 PM Report

My comments were from my observations watchin this team and my personal views and you don't have to agree or like it. If it's against your friend 'oh well'
the machine 12/4/2013 6:19:12 PM Report

If jacobs goes on to win this tournament and represents canada at the olympics and find themselves in a nail biter against andy kapp of germany and fry overrules jacobs call in the 10th end by jumping up and down and having a hissy fit and it ends up being wrong call, ill say "i told you so"
HowAbooutSomeLogic 12/4/2013 8:51:18 PM Report

#1Son...throwing out ad hominems on sootoday when someone doesn't agree with your 'reality'

What a shocker, son!

Do you have any 'lobotomy doctors' in your circle of friends n family, son? I'd love to meet one!

I've never known one, personally...though, perhaps their successful procedure eliminated my ability to recall having met them.

[thought to self] Is THAT what that scar is from??
Navy.League.Branch 12/6/2013 9:57:05 AM Report curling..... Jacobs in the final... How about we be PROUD - SAULT STE. MARIE has a possibility to play in Feb.

thats right - enjoy the game be proud!!!

and really insinuating these guys do or have done steroids is funny - look at them not exactly roid material and besides it would be like doing roids to play checkers, no point.

Lets just support these guys in their game!
ONNFIRE 12/6/2013 1:07:39 PM Report

To the 3/4 of responding idiots, I would love to see you make the shot that Brad Jacobs made last night under that pressure. What a shot and that comes from years and years of practice, and not sitting on the couch collecting your welfare cheques and having delivery companies deliver your pizza and beer, while playing X-Box. Keep up the good work and best wishes to the Jacobs team, and making Sault Ste. Marie Proud.
timothyj84 12/6/2013 1:20:01 PM Report

Sootoday you should add a thumbs up or down to peoples comments let people decide some negativity could just be a thumbs down

proud mom 12/6/2013 1:27:08 PM Report

Wow...can't people just be happy and proud of these boys?? I am not a curler but I love watching the game. I am not from the Soo (a little further north)and I've heard stories and opinions about these boys (which I totally ignore) They are excellent curlers, they are young and reletively new to these events and the stress that goes with on that note, I want to say that I am so proud of these guys and wish them all the luck and good curling!!
HowAbooutSomeLogic 12/6/2013 2:41:04 PM Report

timothy, do you have trouble as it is deciding whether or not you like a comment and require the subjective opinions and collective effort of SooToday's readers to make up your mind for you? That's a serious question because I can't fathom that's how you live life day to day so why should that change when you get behind your keyboard?

In the top right corner of every comment reads the word 'Report'. While I've never used this feature I believe it is for those, perhaps yourself, that are easily offended by the written words of others and would prefer to have them censored lest others make up their own minds about what they think about such comments, eg. 'Verado' following this article accusing some member(s?) of the Jacobs team of using (not sure exactly what he said because it was removed by the time I got here)

I did the same so I'm not sure why I didn't get flagged...and I wouldn't have said anything if it were not for #1Son writing that such a thing is not possible, these are such nice boys, etc. but I'll reference my first hand acct when you call me a liar.
HowAbooutSomeLogic 12/6/2013 2:44:35 PM Report

@theprotector, I'm guessing you've never curled if you liken it to checkers. Most people, if they could manage to stay on their feet, would have both arms burning and be totally out of breath sweeping a rock from end to end for the first time.

While these boys might not be the best curlers in the world they are almost certainly the best sweepers on tour BECAUSE THEY ARE IN THE BEST SHAPE. To deny, in theory, that using the right steroids would put you at advantage in a sport where superior fitness and strength put you at advantage is as nonsensical as your comment.

I am very proud of the Brad Jacobs Team. I want them to win and already I think their recent success has increased awareness for the sport and brought in more money as a result. Who knows how many new curlers have gotten into the sport and may play competitively at some point because of them.

In addition, I regularly support the Soo Curlers Association (for the last two years anyway) and I encourage others to do the same, if it suits them and show up for the game Sunday.

TSN.CA probably has the best coverage
