OPP NEWS RELEASE

*************************
WAWA - On November 29, 2013 at 8:30 p.m., the Superior East Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Wawa Detachment responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 519 in the Dambrossio Township.

Upon arrival the driver was removed from the motor vehicle by the OPP.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) attended the scene shortly thereafter.

The driver, 55-year-old Rejean Poulin of Wawa, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police investigation revealed that the vehicle, a 2006 Toyota Tacoma, was on a straight away when it veered off of the roadway on the right hand side and drove into the ditch striking a rock face.

Members with the OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigation (TTCI) are currently investigating the cause of the collision.

There has to be a safer way to build driveways other than using culvert/rocks/cement. How many people have to be killed by culvert collisions before someone invents or devises a way to save lives?

@Zing

...There has to be a safer way to build driveways other than using culvert/rocks/cement. How many people have to be killed by culvert collisions before someone invents or devises a way to save lives?...

Not to sound harsh but what would you have the Engineers build?! Water has to pass under roads. Culverts do not kill people! Obviously from this story the deceased lost control due to mechanical failure, health failure, he fell asleep or an animal run in front of him! It happened on a straight stretch of highway. The fault is with the driver, not the road. Millions of people travel the highway per year how many do you think die? 100? 1000? Do you really think it is possible to build anything that can guarantee zero fatalities?

This weekend a lot of people were up in arms about the death of Paul Walker (the actor from Fast n Furious series). They were screwing around in a Porche doing donuts and figure eights at high speed resulting in the driver colliding with a pole killing the both of them. Should they build better curbs? Get rid of light poles? Or could it just possibly be the drivers fault?

The last thing society needs is to idiot proof everything at the financial and convenience cost to the rest of us!

Not necessarily a man. I know a woman named Rejean that I used to play cards with. Sure hope it wasn't her, I didn't know her last name. Condolences to the family.

I shake my head on most days reading this site and the stupid comments people make... but this one I just had to comment on. A rock face aka a rock cut... is what you see when you drive down the highway... you know the stuff that has to blasted out to make the highway??
