"Sad Morning Folks.." said mallet on the board affectionately coined the red room at 11:55:21 AM today. "A regular poster has passed away, and I for one shall miss his banter. May he Rest In Peace."

SooToday.com received the following notice from the Northwood Funeral Home and Cremation Centre.

Roberts, David Michael  (aka "Skipper Dave" and Papa)

With sadness, we pass along news of David's passing on the morning of November 21 at Algoma Residential Community Hospice.

He is now free to be where he was always happiest, sailing the waters around St. Joe's Island, and his birthplace Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.

He will be fondly remembered by the Sugar Island Ferry Operators, the Coast Guard and Freighter Captains for his constant quest to prove that sail boats have "the right of way".

Our waters might be a bit safer to boat on now, but the community has lost someone who spread his own magic and fun on his beloved seas.

He leaves behind his much loved wife and best friend Penny, two step-children Jacob and Teyah as well as his two daughters and grandchildren Kerry (husband Andrew, children Gavin and Carter) and Breanne (husband Dan, daughter Evie), all who loved trips on Papa's Pirate Ship.

The family would also like to thank the many extended friends and family for their constant love and support.

At Skipper Dave's request, there will not be a funeral, however a celebration of his life will be held at Northwood Funeral HomeCremation & Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Road 705-945-7758) on Saturday, November 23rd, 2013 between 1 and 4 p.m.

Memorial donations to House of Kin Sudbury would be appreciated by the family.
