Aviation Day at Sault College
Sault College opens its aviation hangar to the community to showcase flagship program
SAULT STE. MARIE - Considered one of the best flight schools in Canada, Sault College’s Aviation Technology - Flight program will be hosting an Aviation Day on Friday, November 1 at 1 p.m. at the new Sault College Hangar.
Guests are invited for this one-time opportunity to tour the College’s flagship program facilities at the new Aviation hangar located next to the Sault Ste. Marie Airport.
The College will also be showcasing its fleet of aircrafts including 10 Zlin and two Piper Seminole aircrafts with advanced radio navigation systems and real time aircraft tracking systems.
In addition to the community open house at the hangar, beginning at 10 a.m., college community members are encouraged to participate in a state-of-the-art flight simulation at Sault College, which provides a realistic experience that closely replicates flying in one of the College’s planes.
“Sault College provides a high quality Aviation training experience – one that we are pleased to showcase,” notes Colin Kirkwood, dean of Business, Environment and Technology at the College. “The purpose of Aviation Day at Sault College is to showcase our facility and equipment. Our equipment is second to none, and is kept safe and serviceable by a dedicated team of highly-qualified Aircraft Maintenance Engineers.”
The College’s impressive aviation hangar and maintenance/repair facility and learning spaces are a key element to ensure the Aviation program maintains its competitive position in the post-secondary market.
The state-of-the-art facilities are used for storing and maintaining aircrafts as well as for providing ground school instruction to post-secondary students enrolled in the aviation program.
Sault College’s Aviation program is recognized for excellence around the globe and is the College’s most popular and oversubscribed program.
In 2011, the College celebrated the 35th anniversary of the first graduating class of the Aviation Technology - Flight program.
The College also welcomed back one of its graduates, Kevin Parker, Assistant Chief Designer and Chief Pilot of the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, along with retired professors for a guest presentation to students.
Recently, the College announced a partnership with a leading Canadian corporate jet charter provider and regional airline, Air Georgian, through its Mentor Program beginning in May 2013.
The mentorship program selects high-achieving college and university graduates from recognized aviation programs to continue the learning experience while on the job.
Graduates of the College’s Aviation program are currently employed in careers as flight instructors, charter pilots, corporate pilots and flying for major airlines around the globe.
Sault College Alumnus, Captain Brent Handy, Royal Canadian Air Force and Lead Soloist of the #9 Jet on the Snowbirds demonstration team, will be recognized at the Premier’s Awards in Toronto next month.
Aviation Day is a free event open to the community with parking located at the Sault College hangar.
