For the first time in its 41-year history, the Algoma Fall Festival has a weekend schedule full of events designed specifically for ladies.
The Gal Pal Getaway, which begins this evening with legendary Canadian comedienne Andrea Martin (pictured), also includes visits from Chef Lynn Crawford, Juno Award-winning performer Gino Vannelli, and author/journalist Amanda Lindhout.
Since busting into the comedy television scene on the Canadian sketch series, SCTV, Martin continues to enjoy great success in theatre, television and film.
Her credits include a Tony Award-winning performance in the 1992 Broadway production of My Favorite Year; her critically acclaimed one-woman show Nude, Nude, Totally Nude for which she won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding One Person Show in 1996; appearances on a number television series, including Sesame Street, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, The Simpsons, 30 Rock, Nurse Jackie, and American Dad; and many screen credits, including Wag the Dog, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, and The Producers.
Martin kicks off the Gal Pal Getaway tonight at the Kiwanis Community Theatre Centre at 8 p.m.

The Algoma Fall Festival Gal Pal Getaway continues through the weekend with both Chef Lynn Crawford (1 p.m.) and Gino Vannelli (9 p.m.) on October 19 at The Machine Shop (75 Huron Street), and Amanda Lindhout on October 20 at 1 p.m. at Algoma's Water Tower Inn (360 Great Northern Road).
