Electricity prices set to increase. AgainThursday, October 17, 2013 by: SooToday.com Staff
ONTARIO ENERGY BOARD
New electricity prices for households and small business consumers
TORONTO - Today the Ontario Energy Board announced new electricity prices.
The new prices will apply to most households and small businesses starting November 1.
This chart outlines time-of-use prices as of November 1, 2013:
Off-peak - Weekdays 7 p.m. - 7 a.m. - All day weekends and holidays - 7.2 ¢/kWh (up 0.5 cents)
Mid-peak - Weekdays 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. - 10.9 ¢/kWh (up 0.5 cents)
On-Peak - Weekdays 7-11 a.m. and 5-7 p.m. - 12.9 ¢/kWh (up 0.5 cents)
The price change for consumers is an increase of approximately $4 on the "Electricity" line, or about 3 percent on the total monthly bill, for a household with a typical consumption pattern that uses 800 kWh per month.
The Ontario Energy Board reviews electricity prices twice each year based on updated cost estimates.
Estimates for the coming year include more generation from sources including renewables along with a higher market price for natural gas.
Another significant factor in this price change accounts for the variation between previous estimates and actual costs.
The majority of households and small businesses in Ontario now pay time-of-use prices.
Time-of-use prices vary based on when electricity is being used. They encourage consumers to use electricity during lower-cost time periods.
Most Ontario households use about two-thirds of their power (64 percent) during off-peak hours.
These price changes do not affect the small number of consumers who have contracts with a company that sells electricity under contract.
The Ontario Energy Board is an independent and impartial public agency.
We make decisions that serve the public interest.
Our goal is to promote a sustainable and efficient energy sector that provides consumers with reliable energy services at a reasonable cost.

I'm pretty sure that the "delivery charges" are going up also, Jan 1, 2014' I already pay more for that monthly than the power I use

These private corporations are out of their minds!!! HOW in the hell are middle class families, low income families and seniors suppose to keep paying these constant increases to electricity when they can barley pay for the already high cost of electricity??? What the HELL is wrong with our government for allowing this to keep going on???? WHERE DOES IT END?????
euroman 10/17/2013 7:59:31 PM Report
You have to pay for the green energy somehow. This is McGuinty's legacy to us all. Expect prices to rise more and more sharply in the future. Wind and solar energy is not cheap.

The fact we are all still paying for the 1.2 billion in cancelled power plants is also factored in I'm sure!

Someone has to pay for the billion $$$'s the Lib's spent on not building gas plants.. And the 'GREEN POWER'.

Buy the woodstove alright, and cut some wood on Crown land. Lots of waste out there on the landings.
It's time we throw the Liberals out. They have totally messed up the Energy file. Wind and Solar is very inefficient. Our rates are going up because of this.

Keep The Money Coming Suckers....
(I'm a sucker too, sorry to say )
First we had to PAY other jurisdictions to TAKE our electricity !
Now we have to pay wind-farms NOT to make it too !!!
( and the hell of it is that the big shots continue to put up more of these money vacuums, to clean us out )

Ontario to pay wind power generators not to produce electricity when not needed.
TORONTO – Ontario will start paying wind power generators today not to produce electricity, but the government says the move will actually save ratepayers big bucks.
Ontario has had a surplus of power since 2006, but until now, the province paid for all the electricity generated from industrial wind mills, even when it wasn’t needed.
Energy Minister Bob Chiarelli says the system operator can now order wind producers not to generate power, and will pay them – just as it pays Bruce nuclear – not to produce electricity when it’s not needed...

Wonder what David O thinks of the rising electricity costs? Maybe he will have a photo op, telling us its for the good of the planet. Who cares if the people of Ontario will be paying some of the highest costs for electricity in all of N America and manufacturers leave for other provinces with lower energy costs.

The problem is all those losers get income for life yet the lie & steal from the taxpayers on a daily basis.
Start putting them in jail for fraud, make them repay.

Don't know if you'all know this but Kathleen Wynne is now paying green energy (wind and solar) to NOT operate and keep cheaper hydro, nat. gas and nuclear running. The exact opposite of what they were doing. Dalton and his posse have destroyed our eletrical infrastructure by listening to David Susuki and Al Gore. Please when you throw them out make sure it's over the fence.

Out of curiosity I looked into what others pay around the world - surprisingly we have pretty cheap electricity rates (Canada 10 cents/kWh, USA 12/kWh, UK 20/kWh, Denmark 41/kWh)... Clean Power Denmark Renewables Account for 40% of their power output... pricey!! ... OUR DELIVERY charges on the hand may be much higher than elsewhere but I couldn't find info on that - my parents live in Goulais and their delivery charges are unbelievable. see link for prices around the world: http://theenergycollective.com/lindsay-wilson/279126/average-electricity-prices-around-world-kwh

Other than buying a wood stove and lot, or bitching, what can we ACTIVELY do to stop these increases? How can we actively protest this? What can we do as a group, to stop this monopoly of a business from taking our money?

They have to keep increasing rates - it's part ot the Ponzi scheme, and required to keep paying the OUTRAGEOUS pay, perqs and benefits packages of ALL people in the electricity business - this includes union workers, executives, the whole lot.
We are constantly encouraged to "save" electricity, conserve, use less.
When we do, of course, this means LESS revenue, to support the Ponzi scheme.
Ontarians are being ripped off, blackmailed and extorted - all just to cover the OUTRAGEOUS pay, perqs and benefits packages of ALL electricity workers.
learningaswego 10/18/2013 9:35:02 AM Report
So, let's see if we have this right, shall we?
We're told by Doofus McSquinty, climate change whoremonger Zillionaires Al Gore and Screwyouzki, that we must "go green" or die.
Ontarians are told to reduce consumption - and do.
This requires increases in the rates we pay, to keep funding the RIDICULOUS pay packets of energy industry employees, and the friends of McSquinty and the Libs who are making a fortune off of the Green Energy Act.
Now, the Liberal tools expect us to pay the Greenies NOT to produce electricity from the ridiculously expensive green producers of electricity.
Thanks McSquinty and Libs.
MY GAWD, PEOPLE, LET'S THROW THE BUMS OUT!
The ONLY thing preventing that right now is HorWath and the ever useless NDP.
The provincial Tories are ready to turf the idiots. Get on with it, for crying out loud.

Something needs to be done about all these increase.
I have and will alway watch the energy I use. I have changed everything in my house to energ wise products and my bill just keep going up. There is also only two people in the house and not four as there use to be. This makes no sence to me, my bill should be coming down as the PUC have continually told us. I do not believe these people anymore. I am using a fraction of the power I once used and the bill goes higher and higher. Is this not a red light as to how our PUC is managed and opperated?
Your try to teach your children to manage their money and they see these results. They feel hopeless and give up. How do you expect them to own a home in todays world? Something must be done or it will just explode in our faces again.

Yeah, they only really need the front sign lit up. That goes for basically all businesses and industry who waste so much power it's not even funny. Most big businesses just shut half of the lights off and leave just a little bit of light everywhere for nobody to see. It's stupid.
But, that is not why your bill is so high. Your bill is so high mostly because we're paying Hydroone linesmen 130grand a year who don't have any education at all. Sure, some of them do. And yeah some of them work a lot of overtime in crappy wheather, but it's not like it's hard work! A lot of times they're sitting around, or driving.
We pay for their Heavy Equipment Operator training. We pay for them to sleep for the next day when they've worked the previous night for which they got paid double overtime for. We pay for a lot of perks for them.
They also all get a guaranteed 3% raise every year... You have to expect a raise in your bill.

Simply put, there are those that make $100K-per-year (government jobs)and the rest of us working poor. Make $100K and you won't feel the energy prices. The PC's would not put these crushing energy prices on the working poor and small businesses which are already crippled by over-regulation. $1-billion in cancelled gas plants, but that's okay. Mismanaging energy which is a basic component of infrastructure will further cripple Ontario's economy. Make a $100K a year or go live in a cave. Shouldn't have turfed Harris/Eaves in the first place.
