Local MPP Stresses the Importance of the OLG in Sault Ste. Marie
Sault Ste. Marie— Today David Orazietti,MPP (right) advocated the importance of the Ontario Lottery and Gaming (OLG) head office and operations to the Sault Ste. Marie community in a meeting with Phillip Olsson, the nominated Chair of the OLG Board of Directors (left).
“It was important to meet with Mr. Olsson and reinforce the vital role that the OLG office plays in the local economy and in providing well-paying jobs for this community,” said Orazietti. “We had a great discussion and I helped to familiarize him with the head office and casino operations, and I am confident that we can work together in the future to ensure these important jobs remain in the Sault.”
The provincial Liberal government has consistently maintained that the OLG head office in Sault Ste. Marie will remain based in the community and the province is committed to working with the City in order to strengthen the OLG’s presence.
"I'm pleased to be meeting employees in both OLG's head office and Casino SSM. I want to thank Minister Orazietti for taking the time to meet with me today to discuss local priorities for OLG," said Olsson.
Today’s meeting builds on past commitments by both Minister of Finance Charles Sousa and Premier Wynne that the OLG head office will remain in Sault Ste Marie during the OLG modernization.
At a meeting this past summer organized by Orazietti’s office, the Premier Wynne stated, "the province's number one priority right now as a government is helping businesses create jobs and grow. Our plan includes the OLG head office remaining in Sault Ste Marie. Keeping that office there has and will continue to help the city and local economy remain on sound footing so it can continue to prosper. Through modernization, we will ensure that Sault Ste Marie continues to have an important role in the shape of the OLG's future."
